Perfection Required for AC Milan Champions League Return
21.3 || webmaster

If only the season had started on the 1st January, Milan would be sitting pretty at the top of Serie A with Juventus. While it is often pointless to speculate on hypotheticals in football, most Milan fans would with that the season was just a little longer to give the team, when in this form, a better chance of getting a Champions League spot. However, there is reason to believe recently. The brilliant 2-0 away win at Roma and the recent comeback win against Chievo points to a team full of belief.

As it stands, Milan are not in a bad position. They sit in sixth position, five points behind fourth-placed Inter. Lazio sit in fifth place, four points ahead of Milan. Can Milan leapfrog the two clubs? Or even Roma in third (nine points ahead)? Yes, but they will need to close to perfect with 10 games remaining. The current odds for a Top 3 finish read as follows:

Roma 1/5
Lazio 2/1
Inter 2/1
Milan 9/1

10 games to decide Milan’s Champions League fate

While there are 10 games left in the season, although Roma and Lazio have nine remaining, Milan’s fate might just be decided in the next few weeks. Two huge fixtures come just after the international break – Juventus (A) on 31st March and Inter (H) on 4th April. It is likely that Milan will need at least four points from those games to continue their Champions League quest.

Odds have been released for the Juventus game, and it does look like Milan’s recent good form has filtered through to the bookmakers. Juventus are, understandably, favourites, but the price of 8/13 (Bet365) reflects the fact that bookmakers aren’t overwhelming confident about the Old Lady. The draw, which you would expect Gattuso to be happy with, is available at 12/5 and it is 11/2 for the Milan win. Want a free shot at the game or on Milan’s season? Check out these 2018 free bets from leading bookies.

Inter match looming large on the horizon for Milan fans

Odds haven’t been released for the Inter game just yet, but you could argue that it is more important than the Juventus match. A win is more or less essential, as even a draw would mean Inter having a better head to head record, which would effectively mean the gap is six points. Inter will, of course, be buoyed by their recent 5-0 demolition of Sampdoria, a game in which Mauro Icardi bagged four goals. Still, Gattuso will put out a side with a different way of thinking than the one that lost 3-2 to Inter in October.

If Milan can come away with four points or better, they will be in a strong position to get close to the Champions League spots. The run-in is tough, with a fixture at the San Siro against Napoli also set for the 15th April. However, both Lazio and Inter have a daunting fixture list too, with Lazio also having Europa League travel dates to worry about.

Lazio host Inter on the final day of the season

A lot can happen between now and then, but on the final day of the season (20th May) Milan will be setting up for a home fixture against Fiorentina. At the same time, Milan’s two main rivals for Champions League spots, Lazio and Inter, will be going head to head at the Stadio Olimpico. Perhaps that will be a straight shoot out for fourth place. Perhaps Milan will be in a position to profit from two rivals going against each other. If things keep going in the same manner for Gattuso and the Rossoneri, the latter’s a real possibility.

Patrick Cutrone set for new improved contract with AC Milan
20.3 || webmaster

Despite the acquisition of star players Andre Silva and Nikola Kalinic last summer, youth product Patrick Cutrone has emerged as the leading scorer at AC Milan this season.

The 20-year-old has found the net 15 times in 37 games across all competitions, while his youthful exuberance, strength and love for the club is glaring for all to see whenever he appears on the pitch with his never dissipating energy on and off the ball.

Normally, at his age he still has lots of time ahead of him for improvement, but with his impressive form already earning him comparison with club legend Filippo Inzaghi given their poacher instincts in the box, he has undoubtedly won the hearts of everyone connected to the Rossoneri.

As reported last week, that is now set to be rewarded with a new contract as it’s claimed that he will be awarded one-year contract extension with better financial terms.

It’s undoubtedly a much deserved reward as his goals have proved crucial to his club’s campaign this season while the likes of Silva and Kalinic have wobbled. That was made more evident than on Sunday when he scored the equalizer in the 3-2 win over Chievo.

With Silva now gradually regaining his form too, Gennaro Gattuso will be pleased with his two frontmen, but Cutrone will be pressured to keep delivering goods if his contract is improved.

Further, he will be hoping to secure his senior Italy debut this week after being called up to the squad to face Argentina and England during the international break, and so life seem to be going steadily for the youngster both on and off the pitch at the moment.

Milan fans will be hoping that he can maintain this incredible form and have a long-last effect on the first team in the years to come to give them the chance to compare the free bets on offer.

Gennaro Gattuso could guide AC Milan back to the Champions League
1.3 || webmaster

AC Milan looked destined to endure yet another disastrous season when they began disappointingly last year, picking up many underwhelming results in Serie A.

Following such a poor run of form throughout their early domestic outings, AC Milan looked set to struggle in 2018, and it was Vincenzo Montella that faced the consequences as the former Fiorentina striker was sacked as manager by the fallen Milan giants.

In a bid to overturn such poor results and bring the good times back to the San Siro club, former player and huge fan favourite Gennaro Gattuso was appointed as Montella's immediate replacement.

The now 40-year-old Italian coach had previously delved into Milan management with the youth side but had other minor roles in the managerial aspect of the game beforehand. Nevertheless, he's a club legend and one that the hierarchy believed could finally overturn their form and fortunes in the short and long term.

Under the guidance of their former midfield enforcer, AC Milan aiming to finish in the top four places and secure their return to the Champions League for next season. They will have to get past bitter San Siro rivals Inter Milan in their latest domestic outing in order to continue their run, though, and they are 11/8 with bet365 in the Serie A betting to exactly that.

The Rossoneri are now on the trail of a return to Europe's elite club competition and Gattuso is one of the key reasons for this. Many of the previously underperforming stars of the side are now putting in great showings in Serie A and the Europa League, while others have emerged as pivotal players.

AC Milan have been on a great surge of form of late, having so far gone unbeaten in 2018 and are now just seven points adrift of fourth spot in the division table, which is currently occupied by derby rivals Inter Milan.

Another boost for the black and red club is the fact their neighbours Inter have been struggling badly, coinciding with their own purple patch throughout the year to date.

With only 12 games remaining in the race for the Serie A title and the European positions, a lot could come down to the upcoming derby clash between the two Milan sides at the San Siro Stadium. But prospects are looking very promising for a derby day success after Gattuso has instilled a revived sense of unity and pride to wear their club colours during each and every match day.

AC Milan general manager Marco Fassone is confident they can rally to success and eventually finish in the top four this current campaign.

"We've got to believe in it," he stated. "You can never say never in football and these gaps have been reduced.

"The lads believe in it and [Gattuso] has the desire, so let's look forward, and why not?"

A win on derby day would be a huge boost for AC Milan's hopes of achieving a Champions League spot and it's looking more and more likely they can do exactly that.
