AC Milan set to sign Borini 28.6 || webmaster
With Carlos Bacca seemingly set to depart the San Siro this summer, AC Milan look like adding to their summer spending by adding Fabio Borini to their ranks. The 26-year-old, who has one international cap with Italy to his name, is reportedly closing in on a move back to his homeland, a transfer that is believed to be in the region of £5.3m (€6m). Despite failing to deliver during his time at Sunderland, scoring just seven goals in 50 appearances for the side recently relegated from the Premier League, Milan appear to be keen to bolster their attacking options ahead of the new Serie A campaign, where they are already rank outsiders for the title among the bookies.
Borini is expected in Milan at the end of the week to undergo a medical for this new club, with AC having seen off interest from rivals Fiorentina to secure his services. Having been linked with the former Chelsea youngster back in the January transfer window, Vincenzo Montella looks to have finally got his man. Despite being highly thought of as a youngster, Borini has failed to turn his promise into consistent performances to date, struggling during spells for Roma, Liverpool and Sunderland in the past.
Milan, backed by their new Chinese owners, have already invested heavily in order to bring Portuguese striker Andre Silva and defender Mateo Musacchio to the San Siro, while the Rossoneri are also thought to be working on deals for Lazio duo Lucas Biglia and Keita Balde. Having finished sixth in the Serie A standings last season, a massive 28 points behind champions Juventus, there is certainly a substantial need for investment in the playing squad. Although Borini is perhaps not the star name many were crying out for, the attacker will certainly add to the strength-in-depth of the squad. AC Milan will hope to be among the favourites in the bookmaker odds come the start of the new campaign.
Borini himself will undoubtedly be hoping for a fresh start in Italy, having found the back of the net just twice for Sunderland last season, as David Moyes’ former side were relegated from the Premier League in England. Borini made his debut for the Italian national side back in 2012, before being an unused member of the squad that reached the European Championship Final in the same year.

AC Milan transfer news & predictions 7.6 || webmaster
AC Milan have just finished a disappointing sixth in Serie A, 28 points behind champions Juventus, but they should close that gap next season. The long period of stagnation endured by the fans could finally be set to come to an end due to the ambition the club is showing in the transfer market. Investment from the new Chinese owners means the Rossoneri can finally dream of usurping Juventus, Roma and Napoli, returning to the summit of Serie A and challenging for the Champions League.
Vincenzo Montella deserves another season after getting Milan back into Europe and winning silverware, and there is every reason to think he can lead them to challenge for greater prizes next campaign. Milan have a strong young squad, and they showed glimmers of their talent last season, but it is clear that investment is needed, and early signs are promising for this transfer window. Signing Franck Kessie from Atalanta is a good start. He was a driving force behind unfancied Atalanta finishing above Milan last season and, despite interest from some big Premiership clubs, has opted to join the Rossoneri on an initial two-year loan deal. He is 20 years old and full of promise, and will bolster the talented young ranks at the San Siro.
But now the club needs to make some statements of intent by signing star players that are in their prime and capable of propelling Milan back to the top of the table. Juventus have run away with Serie A for too many years in a row, and Napoli and Roma have been the only teams to get close. Inter are also being bankrolled with huge investment, so next season’s Serie A race looks to be more competitive than ever. Juventus will still be the team to beat, however, and to do that Milan clearly need more firepower and a tighter defence. Last season they scored 20 goals fewer than Max Allegri’s team, and conceded 18 goals more, so there is clearly a lot of work to be done.
But there is cause for optimism. Matteo Musacchio is exactly what Milan need – a player in his prime, aged 26 – and he represents a good signing. He should be able to forge a strong partnership at the back with the outstanding Alessio Romagnoli, and make Milan harded to break down next season. Now for the firepower, and fans should be full of excitement about the players the club is being linked with. Alvaro Morata is one of the hottest properties in Europe. He was a revelation for Juventus, but has been frustrated by a lack of starts at Real Madrid, where he is behind Cristiano Ronaldo, arguably the world’s best player, in the pecking order. Yet he is a supreme talent with a great eye for goal. Ditto Andrea Belotti, who has a superb season, ending up right near the top of the goal scoring charts despite playing for a pretty poor Torino side. He is also a team player and presses high and hard for his side, so he would be a fantastic addition. Either of them would give Milan a new dimension in attack and instantly make them into a force to be reckoned with.
Chief executive Marco Fassone and sporting director Massimo Mirabelli have thus far acted quickly and decisively to plug the gaps in the squad and improve the team’s quality. It is also great to see them stepping up efforts to keep hold of Gianluigi Donnarumma. With the club’s new financial muscle, there is no need to sell off its best young players, and Donnarumma should be made to feel that he can realise all his ambitions by staying at the San Siro. If they can keep him, wrap up a few more deals in the next month and have everyone in place ahead of preseason training, it could be an exciting season indeed for the Rossoneri. It might be worth backing them to winning their opening games and perhaps putting a stake on them finishing in the top four at least. A bookie like 5Dimes will definitely have odds, but review them first. Juventus will be the favourites, followed by Roma, Napoli and Inter, but there is every reason to think Milan will be right in the thick of it come the end of the season.
