The Rossoneri were running out of time to close the four-point gap and snatch that precious fifth place from Roma, with direct access to the Europa League group phase. Theo Hernandez and Ismael Bennacer returned from suspension, but Alessio Romagnoli, Andrea Conti and Mateo Musacchio were still out of action. Samp had won four of their first five games in July, but then lost back-to-back with Genoa and Juventus. Morten Thorsby was banned, with Albin Ekdal injured.

Milan director Ricky Massara confirms they are ‘talking’ to agents to extend contracts for Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Gianluigi Donnarumma and Hakan Calhanoglu.
“We are talking to Mino Raiola and trying to do it behind the scenes, even if it’s difficult to keep anything from the media nowadays,” confirmed Massara to Sky Sport Italia when asked if Ibrahimovic will remain.

Lazio couldn’t make it work without suspended Ciro Immobile and Felipe Caicedo, as Milan ran out 3-0 winners from the Olimpico, allowing Juventus to go seven points clear.
The Aquile needed a victory to keep their Scudetto hopes alive, but had both Ciro Immobile and Felipe Caicedo suspended, so had to improvise with Luis Alberto supporting Joaquin Correa. Adam Marusic and Luiz Felipe were also out injured, but Lucas Leiva was thrown into the starting XI for his first appearance since knee surgery on April 2. The Rossoneri’s momentum towards Europe stalled with a 2-2 draw at 10-man SPAL midweek, during which they also lost Samu Castillejo to a thigh strain. Ante Rebic was benched, with Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s first start since the lockdown.
