Kessié Courted by Barcelona, Liverpool 17.10 || webmaster
Franck Kessié joined Milan in 2017 on an extended, two-season loan spell from Atalanta. Since then, he has become a staple for the team, a reliable goalscorer who, although he didn’t perform exceptionally over the last season, has been an overall positive addition to the team. But his contract is coming to an end - it will expire next summer - and there’s no sign of an extension yet.
The 24-year-old central-midfielder is already on the radar of several major European teams competing for him, so don’t b surprised if, the next time you click the Vwin sports betting link, you’ll encounter his name among the players of Barcelona or, perhaps, Liverpool.
Contenders
Barcelona has been eager to sign the Ivorian central-midfielder Franck Kessié for quite some time. They have reportedly also made an offer for the player - they are ready to pay a 15 million euro signing bonus to have him once his contract expires in the summer. But Barca has two problems that make them the less likely destination for Kessié next year.
One of them is the decreasing pulling power of the club. After losing out on Messi this summer, and being forced to reduce their budget for salaries, Barcelona is not as attractive as it was just a year ago. The other problem that will likely be even harder to overcome is the price. While the 15 million offered by Barca as a signing bonus is indeed a nice sum, there’s another contender in the books with an offer that’s twice as attractive: Liverpool.
According to a report published by Italian paper Corriere Dello Sport, Liverpool has been trying to sign Kessié since this summer. At one point, the Reds made it clear that they were ready to meet any of the player’s demands to make sure they could sign him next summer. And now, the promise has reportedly transformed into a punctual offer: 30 million euros.
Why does Liverpool need Kessié?
Liverpool is a bit thin around the middle, so it’s a logical move to look for another midfield player. Georginio Wijnaldum left the Reds this summer to continue playing with Paris Saint Germain. Thiago Alcântara is rumoured to be heading out of the team (aside from being sidelined due to an injury), and Fabinho is also out for the time being.
Besides, Kessié would be the perfect addition to Liverpool’s midfield. His awareness and understanding of the game could be vital for Klopp’s team. His ability to both stop attacks and initiate them, not to mention his capability to precisely shift play from one side to the other would make him the perfect player alongside Robertson or Alexander-Arnold in defence. If he can build a partnership over at Anfield like the one he had with Bennacer at Milan, he could truly help the team rise to the top of the Premier League standings.
