| | Clarence Seedorf | | French midfielder Mathieu Flamini joined Milan in the summer of 2008 from Arsenal, where he had flourished under the guidance of Arsene Wenger.
Flamini began his club career with Marseille and was only 19 when he made his Ligue 1 debut against Toulouse. But, after only 14 games for Olympique, he left for England in the wake of a 2-0 defeat by Valencia in the final of the UEFA Cup, now known as the UEFA Europa League.
The move was not without controversy as Marseille did not receive a fee for his transfer because he was only on a youth contract. It was reported the compensation paid to the French side was a mere £300,000.
At the time Marseille manager Jose Anigo said the move was "a beautiful treason" and vowed to get revenge. Whether this will happen now Flamini is playing for the Rossoneri is questionable.
Flamini was a regular member of the Arsenal squad for five seasons, but never really established himself as a starter with a standard position - he played at right-back, left-back and in midfield for Wenger's side.
During the player's time in London the Gunners struggled to land trophies, with a Community Shield victory in 2004 and an FA Cup win in 2005 the only silverware they managed to get their hands on during his stay.
After his contract at Arsenal expired in the summer of 2008 Flamini joined Milan where his role as a utility player continued.
However, the second half of his first season at the San Siro saw him become a regular at right-back and he made a total of 37 appearances across domestic and European competitions.
There's no doubt Flamini will be hoping to face old rivals Manchester United when Milan meet the English club in the Champions League later this season.
The betting odds currently make Milan favourites to win the first leg of the tie and the Frenchman will be keen to play his part in any victory.
