Leonardp: 'Perhaps we're incompatible'

Milan boss Leonardo admits that his style of management is perhaps incompatible with that which Silvio Berlusconi would like at San Siro.

Yesterday Berlusconi was quoted telling a group of senators that Leonardo is stubborn and will leave in the summer.

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani said it was impossible that Berlusconi would ever say such things, but a denial from the Italian Prime Minister has yet to arrive.

Speaking at a pre-match Press Conference, Leonardo said: “I don't know what Berlusconi said but, aside from this, I can't deny that our relationship is difficult.

“We are very different, perhaps we are incompatible, but the important thing is the next three games and I care about them too much.

“I believe I am headstrong. I believe in my ideas and I do so with passion. It's an incompatibility on a style level and a way of being.

“If someone says that I have said something that I haven't said, I deny it. But the relationship will go forward.

“I have never spoken about the future because I have never considered it to be the moment for obvious reasons, and I don't consider it to be today either.

“I can say that I have never spoken with anyone at Flamengo, the Brazilian FA and the 2014 World Cup organising committee.

“I have no official offer from anyone,” he concluded.

Galliani will support Inter

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani will support Inter in the Champions League Final on account of Italy's ranking in the UEFA co-efficient.

Serie A will lose their fourth and final Champions League place to the Bundesliga if Inter lose to Bayern Munich at the Bernabeu on May 22.

“I will support Inter. The Nerazzurri must win and whoever laughs at my comments doesn't use common sense, because if Inter lose the Final it would mean that from next year onwards third in Serie A would mean a place in the preliminaries of the Champions League and fourth would mean a place in the preliminaries of the Europa League.

“It would be damaging for Italian football. This is why I say that Inter must win and before a penalty shootout. Otherwise Germany overtakes us.”

Galliani then reacted to criticism of Silvio Berlusconi who reportedly told a group of senators that Leonardo would be leaving this summer.

“I don't believe that this is the lowest point in the relationship between Milan's fans and Berlusconi. The fans should be grateful to Berlusconi for what he has done.

“Inter are playing their first Champions League Final [under Moratti], while we have played eight of them.

“I won't comment on his words, which are attributed to a classic senators' dinner on Wednesday. To do so, I would have to become a senator myself.

“Our current place in the table doesn't frighten us,” he concluded.

Thiago Silva sees Fientina crossroads

Milan vs. Fiorentina is “the most important game of the season,” warns Thiago Silva, as third place isn’t yet secure.

The Rossoneri were in the Scudetto race up until a few weeks ago, but now Sampdoria and Palermo are closing in on the last automatic Champions League qualifying spot.

“It will be the most important game of the season,” the defender told Milan Channel.

“A victory would put us very close to the Champions League, whereas a defeat would absolutely not be a positive thing.

“We must win at all costs if we want to qualify for Europe without any late nerves. Fiorentina cannot make another mistake if they want to reach the Europa League.

“This is why I feel it will be a different and I think also positive match for us.”

Brazilian Thiago Silva has been among the more impressive Milan players this term, but his place at the World Cup is up in the air.

“It is a unique opportunity and I think about it every day, but right now Milan come first.

“You earn a call-up for your country if you do well at club level and I care a great deal about Milan, so I always focus on the good of my side.”

Galliani denies Leo exit talk
30.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani believes it's impossible that Silvio Berlusconi would say Leonardo is leaving the club.

Il Corriere dello Sport's website featured quotes supposedly from Berlusconi in which he appeared to confirm to a group of senators at Palazzo Grazioli that Leonardo is on his way out of San Siro.

“Yes, he will leave. Leonardo is too stubborn. The team has played badly, anyway he is a good person and a good trainer,” Berlusconi reportedly said.

However, Galliani has categorically denied the reports, telling Sky Sport Italia: “It's impossible that Berlusconi has said these things.”

Galliani has expressed his frustration in the past about unsubstantiated quotes emerging from Berlusconi's dinners with senators.

However, speculation has been rife over the last month that Leonardo will walk out on Milan this summer.

The rookie tactician apparently wants to return home to Brazil where his family live.

He has also been linked with the Brazil job, which is expected to become available once Dunga's contract expires after the World Cup in South Africa.

Berlusconi: 'Leonardo will leave AC Milan'

Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi has confirmed that Leonardo will leave the club at the end of the season.

The rookie tactician has privately expressed his desire to return to home to Brazil where his family still live.

Leonardo's relationship with Berlusconi has also been strained thanks to the latter's criticism of his side.

“Leonardo will leave. He has been too stubborn,” Berlusconi said.

When asked whether Milan have a replacement ready, he added: “Negotiations are in progress.”

Finally, Berlusconi complemented Inter on reaching the Champions League Final.

“I always support the Italian teams when they play abroad. Inter have been great and that's tough to say as a Milanista.”

'Pato will stay at AC Milan'

Source: Football Italia

Milan director Ariedo Braida insists that reports linking Alexandre Pato with a move away from San Siro are false.

Pato has spent much of 2010 on the sidelines after twice suffering a muscle tear in his thigh.

This morning's Tuttosport claims he is unhappy at the club and that his agent Gilmar Veloz is in Milan to discuss his future.

Pato's former mentor Carlo Ancelotti is keen to have him at Chelsea and launched a bid last summer.

Real Madrid reportedly stepped up their interest when he scored at the Bernabeu earlier this season.

Speaking to Tutto Mercato Web, Braida said: “Those stories that the Press are writing are only fantasies.

“It's useless to repeat once again that he is happy here in Milan and that there are no problems.

“Pato will not leave Milan.”

Finally Braida was asked about Leonardo's future, as he also looks likely to leave.

“We will make a decision on what to do at the end of the season. Right now it's too soon to speak about it,” he concluded.

Trezeguet's objective is AC Milan

Juventus striker David Trezeguet is interested in joining Milan this summer, according to his agent, Antonio Caliendo.

The 32-year-old Frenchman is just one of several players Juventus are expected to sell at the end of this season.

“We are waiting to see what will happen at Juve in the next few weeks and then we'll make a decision,” Caliendo said.

“It's true that Lyon and Corinthians are after him, although his objective is Milan. After all, who wouldn't go there?

“I believe that the price will be around €5m and €10m. The contract for David would be for two years.”

Trezeguet is the most prolific foreign goalscorer ever to play for Juventus since his arrival in Turin a decade ago.

AC Milan to focus on youngsters

Source: Football Italia

Milan are set to base their transfer strategy around young players this summer to reinvigorate their ageing squad, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

The average Milan player is 30, the highest such figure in Italy and among Europe's elite eight teams.

Il Corriere understands that Milan's patron Silvio Berlusconi is insisting on finding the stars of the future on the cheap.

The Rossoneri are now being linked with Davide Astori, who currently plays for Cagliari.

Milan part-own the 23-year-old but would like to buy the other 50 per cent of his contract and make him a regular next season.

Another name mentioned is that of Dennis Aogo, the versatile Hamburg youngster, who can play in midfield or defence.

He is being valued at around €5m and €7m, but Milan face competition for his signature from Bayern Munich.

Criscito dismisses AC Milan rumours

Genoa defender Domenico Criscito has dismissed reports linking him with a move to either Inter or Milan this summer.

The 23-year-old Italy international is part-owned by Juventus, and the details of that arrangement are due to be discussed at the end of the season.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Criscito said: “I am part-owned by Genoa and Juventus. It's up to those two clubs to decide my future.

“I would be happy to return to the Bianconeri to prove myself. No one expected such a disappointing season for Juve, but I think they will be back sooner than you think.

“I feel fine in Genoa and so I like both destinations.”

When asked if he had ever considered moving abroad, Criscito joked: “I would be interested in Barcelona or Real Madrid…”

Seedorf calls for calm

Source: Football Italia

Milan midfielder Clarence Seedorf has called for calm amid rumours that Leonardo will leave the club this summer.

The Rossoneri lost to Palermo at the weekend and now have to defend their third place, as Sampdoria are breathing down their necks with just three games remaining this season.

The finger of blame has been pointed firmly in Leonardo's direction as he refuses to commit his future to the club.

Speaking to Sky Sport Italia, Seedorf said: “It's obvious that these rumours don't give tranquility, but we are used to the fact that in football you speak about these things at the end of the season.

“We have a very clear objective that we'll realise only by keeping our calm. We don't always manage to give what we would like.

“I would prefer that we didn't speak about this thing, just as Leonardo is doing. In this world we know that these things happen at the end of the season.

“I am sorry that in his case it is happening so soon, as it's only the beginning of this new career. But we are used to it.

“We have had this situation for three years with Ancelotti and also other teams are used to hearing these things. Even Juve are talking about changes.

“We mustn't let these rumours distract us. We must remain united and concentrated on our objective of qualifying for the Champions League.

“This club has always been capable of doing well. This year we were also given up for dead at the beginning of the season but then we showed that we could be competitive.

“Unfortunately we didn't do that right until the end, but it has been a good season if we think about where we started from.

“I think that after this year of transition the club will grow next year too,” Seedorf concluded.

Galliani: 'Balotelli not coming to AC Milan'
25.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan chief Adriano Galliani has categorically ruled out a bid for Inter rebel Mario Balotelli. “We’re not taking the blame.”

The striker was asked to leave the training camp on Friday night after yet another incident created tension with teammates and fans alike.

It fuelled reports that Balotelli is secretly a Milan supporter and would relish the opportunity to cross the San Siro divide.

“I really don’t think Balotelli can wear the Rossoneri jersey,” insisted Vice-President Galliani.

“Besides, I don’t even know if Inter have any intention of selling him. These are Inter’s problems.

“We won’t cultivate dreams that do not exist, especially if we then end up taking the blame.”

Among the clubs linked with Balotelli are Fiorentina, Napoli, Manchester City and Arsenal.

This morning the forward was back at the Appiano Gentile training ground along with his teammates.

Staff painted over graffiti declaring 'Balotelli out!' on the gates.

Leonardo: 'End the season with honour'

Source: Football Italia

Leonardo denies uncertainty over his future is affecting Milan and wants the team to end the season “with honour.”

The Rossoneri have dropped out of the Scudetto race after two consecutive defeats and have won only one of their last seven games.

“I don’t want alibis, but once again we were affected by the large number of players who were missing due to injury or suspension,” said the Coach after a 3-1 loss at Palermo.

“It is absolutely not true that we step on to the field thinking this might be one of my last matches on the Milan bench. I only focus on doing well for the rest of the season.

“My principle objective is to end the campaign in a positive way, with honour. I think that from the next tie with Fiorentina, when we’ll have more players available, we can see the Milan who played most of the season at a high level.”

Leonardo is expected to walk away in the summer along with several of the players, as a renewal process dominates transfer headlines.

“I don’t think my future is affecting any of the performances. Otherwise how could we explain the strong reaction the team had in the second half, when Palermo were under pressure?

“We were damaged by a poor start to the game and the third goal which, like the other two, came from our mistake.”

Leonardo: 'We got it all wrong'
25.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Leonardo admits Milan “got it all wrong” in the opening 20 minutes, but admired the second half performance.

Palermo were already 2-0 up after 19 minutes and went on to win 3-1, as Clarence Seedorf’s goal couldn’t stem the tide.

“The approach to the game was all wrong. I had a team on that field that could’ve played the opening 20 minutes a lot better,” said the Coach.

“We conceded goals that could so easily have been avoided in the circumstances. We should’ve been solid, tight and tried to close down the spaces.

“Palermo took advantage of our mistakes and that ended up affecting the whole game.”

Milan were already effectively out of the Scudetto race, but with a second straight defeat it is now mathematically certain too.

“In the second half the team took back the reins of the game. We scored a goal and threatened to equalise, but Palermo’s third was the death knell.”

Serie A: Palermo 3:1 AC Milan - match report

Scorers: Bovo 9 (P), Abel Hernandez 19 (P), Seedorf 55 (M), Miccoli 69 (P)

Cesare Bovo, Abel Hernandez and a glorious Fabrizio Miccoli strike saw Milan hammered 3-1 in Palermo.

It was fifth against third at the Barbera and on current form the Rosanero were favourites. Leonardo had precious few choices available, as Marco Borriello, Daniele Bonera and Massimo Ambrosini sat out bans. The injury list included Alexandre Pato, Alessandro Nesta, David Beckham, Ignazio Abate, Mathieu Flamini, Kakha Kaladze and Giuseppe Favalli. Dorin Goian was suspended for Palermo, while Mark Bresciano and Fabio Simplicio were sidelined.

Milan have only ever won here once since Palermo returned to the top flight six years ago, in 2005-06.

The Sicilians had a bright start and took the lead thanks to some dismal defending. A Fabrizio Miccoli corner was flicked on to the back post, where Cesare Bovo was left blissfully unmarked to side-foot home from a couple of yards.

Marek Jankulovski was playing in a more advanced position, but scuffed well wide after combining with Ronaldinho on the edge of the box. An audacious Antonio Nocerino volley was over.

The Rosanero made it 2-0 with a well-worked team move. Massimo Oddo was playing as a makeshift centre-back and he was caught in possession for Miccoli to immediately release Abel Hernandez, the angled drive leaving Nelson Dida no chance.

Milan had a chance handed to them after 25 minutes. A lucky ricochet allowed Huntelaar to turn in the box, but Salvatore Sirigu got down well to smother.

Sirigu punched away a dangerous Jankulovski cross from the left, while the goalkeeper flew to fingertip an Andrea Pirlo dipping strike out from under the crossbar.

Huntelaar and Giulio Migliaccio headers were wide, but it was nearly 3-0 when Seedorf gave the ball away for Miccoli's daisy-cutter that Dida pushed round the near post.

Seedorf tried to make up for it with a volley from a corner kick that was deflected off target following good work from Huntelaar.

Straight after the restart a Miccoli effort was charged down by Gianluca Zambrotta for a corner.

Seedorf got Milan back into the game with a well-taken goal. Pirlo and Ronaldinho paved the way with through balls for Seedorf to be released in the box and slide it past Sirigu at the near post from eight yards.

Pippo Inzaghi was thrown on for Zambrotta, as Leonardo tried to complete the comeback moving Jankulovski to left-back and Seedorf to midfield.

Just as the Rossoneri were dominating and pouring forward, Miccoli struck to extend Palermo's lead against the run of play. Fabio Liverani threaded it through for Miccoli to turn, but the finish was exquisite, as he curled a brilliant right-foot strike into the top corner as if it was remote controlled. It was his 20th goal in 36 games in all competition this season.

Pastore should've made it 4-1 when Liverani's beautiful ball over the top completed the duet, but Dida did well to throw himself at the Argentine like a human shield.

Inzaghi thought he had made it 3-2 when rolling past Sirigu in a one-on-one, but the offside flag was raised.

Dida made another save at the near post from Edinson Cavani on the counter. Inzaghi was on side moments later, but prodded wide when Huntelaar was unmarked standing next to him.

Dida again twice parried from Cavani after tearing the Milan defence to shreds. In the final minute Pirlo's shot was deflected inches wide of the target.
Palermo: Sirigu; Cassani, Kjaer, Bovo, Balzaretti; Migliaccio (Bertolo 64), Liverani (Blasi 89), Nocerino; Pastore; Abel Hernandez (Cavani 57), Miccoli

Milan: Dida; Zambrotta (Inzaghi 61), Oddo, Thiago Silva, Antonini; Gattuso, Pirlo, Jankulovski (De Vito 79); Seedorf (Mancini 87); Huntelaar, Ronaldinho

Rossi: 'Palermo beware AC Milan'

Source: Football Italia

Palermo boss Delio Rossi has warned his players not to underestimate Milan as they continue their bid to qualify for next year's Champions League.

The Rosanero currently lie fifth in Serie A, just two points adrift of Sampdoria who occupy the final Champions League place.

“We are not speaking about any old team, but about Milan,” Rossi said at a pre-match Press Conference.

“They care about finishing the season well, some of the players are looking to confirm their place at the club, while others are putting themselves in the shop window.”

Rossi then turned his attention to Palermo's attempts to finish in the top four.

“We should only think about ourselves and doing the best possible. At the end of the season you can't rely on logic because there is no logic at the end of the season.”

Leonardo wants AC Milan to show heart
23.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan boss Leonardo has asked his players to show some heart when they face Palermo tomorrow.

The Rossoneri currently lie third in Serie A, but they are all but mathematically out of the title race.

Palermo are unbeaten at home all season and are looking for a win in their bid to qualify for next year's Champions League.

Speaking at a pre-match Press Conference, Leonardo was naturally asked about his future, which has been the subject of much speculation over the last month.

The Brazilian looks increasingly likely to leave San Siro at the end of the season and return to his homeland.

“We still have not realised anything. Tomorrow's game will be one of the heart. For this reason, we must speak about today.

“We mustn't distract ourselves. We must be concentrated on the game. Apart from the how and the who, it's the attitude that's the most important thing.

“Pato is following his recovery schedule. There isn't a date for his return. We hope to have him back before the end of the season,” Leo concluded.

Galli favourite to succeed Leonardo
23.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan's youth team director Filippo Galli is the favourite to replace Leonardo this summer, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

It now seems increasingly likely that Leo will leave Milan at the end of this season and return to Brazil to be closer to his family.

He is also being linked with the Brazil job, which should become available after the World Cup when Dunga's contract expires.

Silvio Berlusconi apparently named Galli as his preferred candidate during a dinner with a number of Italian senators earlier this week.

When asked about the incident, Adriano Galliani said: “If the President said so… I see Filippo every day, but I see him in charge of our youth sector.”

Galli's stock has risen in recent weeks as Milan want to focus more and more on bringing young players through the ranks.

However, the question now is who would replace him in charge of the youth sector, as Paolo Maldini, one of the names put forward, is keen to stay out of football for a while longer.

Milan are also keen to sound out Marcello Lippi's plans for after the World Cup.

If he leaves his post in charge of Italy, then Galliani would like to involve him in Milan, possibly as a technical director.

'AC Milan won't sell Huntelaar'
22.4 || webmaster

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani insists the club has no intention of selling Klaas-Jan Huntelaar this summer.

The Holland international has struggled to break into the first team since his arrival from Real Madrid, making just nine starting appearances in Serie A.

He has recently been linked with a swap deal for Juventus striker Amauri, although Galliani has moved to pour cold water on such speculation.

Speaking to Mediaset, he said: “Milan have no intention of selling Klaas-Jan.”

However, Mediaset understands that Milan will accept any offer over €12m for the 26-year-old who admitted in January that he would leave if his situation didn't improve.

Maldini calls for investment
22.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Paolo Maldini believes Milan need investment if they are to be competitive and remain among the elite in European football.

The Rossoneri have implemented a number of cost-cutting initiatives over the last year, attempting to slash the wage bill and sign players on free transfers.

Milan currently lie third in Serie A, but they are all but mathematically out of the title race, as a seven-point gap separates them from League leaders Roma with four games remaining this season.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Maldini said: “We need to invest. It's the only way Milan will stay at the top.”

The 41-year-old who retired last year also denied reports that he is about to return to the club as a director.

“I only just stopped playing. I am still too young as a director. Galliani and I have seen each other. No problem exists at the moment.

“I am taking a year out,” he concluded.

AC Milan linked with Trezeguet
21.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan are being linked with a move for Juventus striker David Trezeguet amid further reports that Alexandre Pato will be sold this summer.

The Rossoneri are in the market for a target man capable of holding the ball up and competing with Marco Borriello to lead the line up front.

Milan were interested in Trezeguet last summer, but at the time Juventus weren't prepared to sell one of their legends to a direct rival.

Trezeguet is expected to leave at the end of this season as Juventus plan to rebuild their squad after a disastrous campaign on every level.

Tuttosport understands that Juventus' directors, Roberto Bettega and Alessio Secco, have met their opposite numbers at Milan to discuss a deal.

Trezeguet's agent, Antonio Caliendo is quoted as saying: “It's a hypothesis that has been around for a year.”

Yepes will play for AC Milan

Source: Football Italia

Chievo defender Mario Yepes has confirmed that he will be joining Milan this summer, even though the deal has yet to be done.

Milan's decision to sign the 34-year-old Colombian on a free transfer was leaked last month, but nothing was formally announced.

Speaking on French TV, Yepes said: “I have had many offers, but I can confirm that next season I will play for Milan, of this is I am certain.

“We await the end of the season to formalise everything,” he concluded.

Yepes' family already lives in Milan and he commutes to Verona by train every day.

He has been with Chievo for nearly two years now and became a fans' favourite last season when he helped keep the club in Serie A.

AC Milan weigh up bid for Berbatov

Source: Football Italia

Milan are considering launching a £20m bid for Manchester United striker Dimitar Berbatov, according to The Sun.

Sir Alex Ferguson has reportedly lost faith in the Bulgaria international even though statistically he is having his best season in England.

The Rossoneri are planning to reinforce their attack in the summer as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar has failed to convince the club hierarchy.

A Milan insider apparently told The Sun: “No contact has been made yet, but we admire Berbatov.

“He is a strong player who would do very well in Italy. Whether something can be arranged remains to be seen.

“It has been difficult for Berbatov in Manchester but he is a good player who has a lot to offer.”

Criscito hasn't heard from AC Milan

Genoa full-back Domenico Criscito hasn't heard from Milan about a transfer this summer, according to his agent.

The 24-year-old Italy international, who is part-owned by Juventus, is widely regarded as one of the peninsula's finest defensive prospects.

“Neither I, nor Domenico know anything,” Criscito's agent, Sandro Gedda explained.

“No one has contacted us. Let's say that these rumours are following one after the other and I don't deny that they might have some foundation, but I repeat, we have not had any direct contact.”

When asked if his client would be interested in a move to Milan, Gedda said: “There is still his part-ownership with Genoa and Juventus to resolve.

“But I don't deny that an interest from a big club cannot but make him happy.”

Tassotti part of 'minimalist' AC Milan

Leonardo's assistant Mauro Tassotti looks increasingly likely to replace him as Milan continue their budget-cutting exercise.

Leonardo appears all set to leave Milan at the end of the season to be closer to his family who still live in Brazil.

Instead of bringing in a big name, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani is happy to entrust the bench to Tassotti who also played under Arrigo Sacchi and worked with Carlo Ancelotti.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Galliani is under orders to keep Milan's spending to a minimum again this season.

The Rossoneri are being linked with Empoli striker Eder and Atalanta winger Jaime Valdes who are both out of contract this summer.

Ronaldinho is also said to be upset after being asked to take a 25 per cent pay cut once his current €8m a year deal expires.

Pirlo: 'The Scudetto is lost'
20.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan playmaker Andrea Pirlo has taken a realistic view of his side's title chances, admitting that the Scudetto has already been lost.

The Rossoneri fell to a last-gasp defeat at Sampdoria on Sunday, leaving them seven points adrift of League leaders Roma with four games remaining.

Speaking at an awards ceremony in Brescia, Pirlo said: “The Scudetto is lost: we are only thinking about finishing the season well.

“Unfortunately there is nothing more to do about the title. It's a race between Roma and Inter, a tight struggle until the end of the season.”

When asked about Milan's future under Leonardo, Pirlo said: “It's too soon to speak about it. I also hear the rumours about Leo, but I don't know what will happen.

“Our Coach will make a decision with the club. I have to think about the important games that await Milan. And after the championship there is the World Cup.

Ronaldinho unhappy at AC Milan

Source: Football Italia

Milan's Brazilian star Ronaldinho is reportedly unhappy at being asked to take a 25 per cent pay cut.

The Rossoneri are keen to reward 'Dinho with a longer deal after a good season in Serie A.

However, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has been trimming the budget for a year now and is asking all his players to take a hit in their pay packets.

Ronaldinho currently earns €8m a year at Milan and despite intimating that he wants to stay for another four years, La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that he is growing impatient.

Manchester City have apparently turned his head by making another inquiry.

The former World Player of the Year has previously expressed a desire to play in England.

However, it all depends on whether Milan reward him or not.

'Leonardo could leave for family reasons'
19.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has revealed that Leonardo might leave the club at the summer to be closer to his family.

Speculation about the Brazilian's future has been rife over the last week with Mediaset even claiming that he handed in his notice.

Leonardo has also been strongly linked with the Brazil job, which should become available after the World Cup when Dunga's contract expires.

Quoted in La Stampa, Galliani said: “There aren't any problems with signings, only that Leo has three children in Rio and sooner or later he'll go to Brazil.

“But I think that whatever happens in the future, I will convince him to stay in Italy,” Galliani concluded.

Milan lost 2-1 to Sampdoria at the weekend, practically ending their hopes of winning the Scudetto.

The Rossoneri are seven points behind League leaders Roma with just four games remaining this season.

Leonardo: 'Much to be happy about'
18.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Leonardo insists Milan “have much to be happy about” this season despite crashing out of the Scudetto race.

“The Scudetto was motivating rather than putting pressure on us. Today the team did well and these are games you can win or lose,” he said of the 2-1 defeat at Sampdoria.

“The side played good football, even after the red card, possibly even better in fact in terms of scoring opportunities.

“Of course there are regrets at losing with a 94th minute goal, but I can have no complaints at the performance.

“We were in the lead, had a red card and a penalty against us. In those circumstances, some sides can give up, but we kept pushing and threatened a victory.”

The Rossoneri have won just once in the last six rounds and fell out of the title race, so how will Leonardo motivate his players now?

“Nothing changes for us, we are still taking it one game at a time. Unfortunately the last few results, for a series of reasons, dented our ability to push higher up the table.

“I appreciate the statistics, but we have much to be happy about. Many players this season have been in conditions we did not expect and have done a lot better than we thought in a difficult season.

“There are many positive aspects to look at in this campaign, such as Ronaldinho recovering his form after three years of darkness, Massimo Ambrosini in a great first season as captain, while Alessandro Nesta was excellent until the injury.”

The attention is now all focused on Leonardo's future, as he has refused to confirm or deny whether he'll stay on next season.

“I started my career as a Coach this year and never thought of playing these mind games. I am the Milan Coach and will try to do my work right to the end. That is all I'm thinking. We all have our issues, but that is of no interest to anyone.

“I only live in the present and simply cannot experience the future ahead of time. I live in the moment and I'm happy that way.”

Scorers: Borriello 20 (M), Cassano pen 59 (S), Pazzini 92 (S)

Giampaolo Pazzini punished 10-man Milan in stoppages to end their Scudetto ambitions and send the Blucerchiati clear in fourth place.

It was fourth welcoming third and the Blucerchiati were buoyed by their derby victory, not to mention unbeaten at home all season. Milan were effectively out of the title race already after one win from five rounds and headlines primarily dealt with Leonardo's future. Andrea Pirlo's ban saw him join David Beckham, Alexandre Pato, Alessandro Nesta, Giuseppe Favalli, Kahka Kaladze and Mathieu Flamini. Samp had Daniele Gastaldello suspended, plus Nicola Pozzi, Accardi and Luca Castellazzi out.

Goalkeeper Marco Storari is currently on loan from Milan and eager to impress the club that owns his contract.

Antonio Cassano only grazed a dangerous Stefano Lucchini cross with his head, while Marco Borriello did the same on Amantino Mancini's assist.

Clarence Seedorf's daisy-cutter whizzed inches wide of the upright, but Milan broke through after 20 minutes.

Former Genoa star Marco Borriello rose relatively undisturbed for a powerful header into the top corner from Mancini's set play.

It should've been 2-0 moments later. Storari came flying out to close down Borriello, but the striker got round him to cross for Mancini and the Brazilian ballooned over an open goal!

Seedorf only managed a fresh-air shot on Ronaldinho's assist, while Giampaolo Pazzini had penalty appeals waved away.

Nelson Dida has been under fire recently, but performed two crucial saves in 30 seconds. The first denied Cassano's volley at the near post after a defensive error, then he was at full stretch to palm Lucchini's header off the line from the resulting corner. The move continued and Cassano nodded just over.

The rest of the first half was all Sampdoria, but they could not find a way through. Milan also lost Massimo Ambrosini to injury, making way for Gianluca Zambrotta.

On 53 minutes the game turned, as Daniele Bonera brought down Cassano with a very clumsy tackle from behind, leading to a penalty and red card. Cassano got back up to convert the spot-kick low to the near post despite Dida guessing the right angle.

More bad news, as Borriello was booked and will be suspended for next week's clash with Palermo. Massimo Oddo had to improvise as a centre-back because there were no other options for Leonardo.

Borriello drilled wide and Storari had his palms stung by Gennaro Gattuso from nine yards after Ronaldinho's assist.

Despite playing a man down, Milan had the better chances at Marassi. Ronaldinho set up Borriello for a great opportunity, but the striker incredibly slipped for a weak effort wide.

Ronaldinho went for goal himself and the curler from the edge of the box skimmed the upright. Dida needed two attempts to get a Reto Ziegler rocket under control.

Zambrotta was fortunate to get in the way and deflect Tissone's powerful shot out for a corner. From the resulting set play, Dida completely missed the ball, but managed to scramble back and block it before it crossed the line.

Sampdoria were pouring forward and deep into stoppages got their goal. Daniele Mannini whipped in a cross from the right for Pazzini's towering header, getting in front of makeshift centre-back Oddo.

Sampdoria: Storari; Zauri, Lucchini, Rossi, Ziegler; Semioli, Palombo, Poli (Tissone 79), Guberti (Mannini 67); Cassano, Pazzini

Milan: Dida; Abate, Bonera, Thiago Silva, Antonini; Gattuso, Ambrosini (Zambrotta 47); Seedorf; Mancini (Oddo 60), Borriello, Ronaldinho

Del Neri sees 'decisive' AC Milan clash
17.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Gigi Del Neri warns that Sampdoria's showdown with Milan is “decisive for the Champions League.”

“The Genoa derby is a special game that always leaves something with you,” he said of last week's 1-0 victory.

“This is why it's great that we're facing a big club like Milan, as you cannot lack motivation or concentration in these situations.

“This game can represent a decisive result for the Champions League places. We must play with concentration and intensity.

“We know that we're at the top of our form and Milan are not at their best, so we must make the most of the home advantage too.”

The Blucerchiati are joint fourth with Palermo and face a battle to the end for qualification into Europe's premier competition.

“This squad has proved it can handle the top end of the table. I think everything is achievable and the difficulty comes when you need to maintain the prestige you have earned,” continued Del Neri.

“When I said we were the favourites for fourth place, I meant we can challenge for a prestigious target safe in the knowledge we don't have the pressure to get it at all costs.

“Palermo, Juventus, Napoli and even Fiorentina do well to think they can still come fourth, because they have squads constructed for that position. We built a team to get as many points as possible, without setting a precise target.

“At this moment I think Samp have the characteristics to challenge for fourth right to the end.”

Borriello hopes Leonardo stays

Marco Borriello hopes “Milan hold on tight to Leonardo” after further reports the Coach will leave at the end of the season.

Rumours circulated today that the Brazilian had already handed in his notice to terminate the contract in June, although that was denied by an official club statement.

“We hope to have him with us next season, as he is a person who really makes you happy to be in that locker room,” said Borriello on Milan Channel.

“This was his first season as a Coach, so perhaps he made a few mistakes and will learn from them in future.

“I think that Milan will hold on tight to the boss, at least I hope so. I have an excellent rapport with Leo, he was my teammate in 2002-03 and someone who effectively helped me to grow up.

“Last year, which was very unlucky for me, we spoke a great deal and Leo was always close to me.”

Did Leonardo hand in his notice?

Milan have strenuously denied a report that Leonardo has agreed to rescind his contract with the club.

Sport Mediaset journalist Carlo Pellegatti claimed that the Brazilian had decided to leave Milan in the summer two days ago.

He then added that Marcello Lippi is the favourite to replace Leo with Filippo Galli as technical director.

Milan responded almost immediately with a terse statement rejecting the claims.

“In reference to the reports divulged today relative to a presumed contract rescission, Leonardo would like to clarify that these are totally deprived of any foundation.”

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani revealed earlier today that he would have to convince Leonardo to stay at the club beyond this season.

The Brazilian tactician has a contract until 2011, although - as Galliani acknowledged today - he never actually intended to become a Coach.

Leonardo has been linked with the Brazil job, which should become vacant after the World Cup when Dunga's contract expires.

Galliani: 'I hope to convince Leonardo'

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has admitted that he faces a battle to convince Leonardo to stay at the club this summer.

The rookie tactician has refused to comment on his future amid reports linking him with the Brazil job after the World Cup in South Africa.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Galliani said: “Look, Leo didn't have the intention of coaching Milan. I convinced him last year. And I will convince him to stay this year as well, beyond his two-year contract. I am saying that I will manage it.

“Berlusconi wants him too and it's necessary that I am believed when I make certain statements, otherwise I don't see why we must go forward with the interview. “

When asked about Berlusconi's habit of criticising the team, Galliani flew off the handle.

“He can't be Milan's President because the conflict of interest law prohibits him from doing so.

“He has never chosen the team or hired a dummy tactician. Do we also want to take away from him the right to discuss things?

“They aren't malevolent criticisms, torpedoes aren't being launched when he's dining with senators and ministers. They are simple debates.

“You don't know how many times Leo and Berlusconi talk and see each other. And how they discuss! Milan is a family. And Berlusconi and Leo enjoy themselves.”

Pato close to leaving AC Milan

Source: Football Italia

Alexandre Pato looks increasingly likely to leave Milan this summer, according to Il Corriere dello Sport.

Real Madrid and Chelsea are courting the 20-year-old striker who toyed with leaving last summer when Carlo Ancelotti departed for Stamford Bridge.

Il Corriere understands that Pato could be sacrificed like Kaka was at the end of last season in a bid to put a gloss on the club's balance sheet.

Madrid are apparently preparing a bid worth €55m plus Karim Benzema in exchange, although the latter's agent has denied the existence of any such deal, repeatedly insisting that his client will remain at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Meanwhile, Chelsea would work on a similar basis, offering Branislav Ivanovic in a swap deal with a vast amount of cash.

The Blues reportedly offered €45m for Pato last summer only for their bid to be rejected amid fan protests at Kaka's transfer.

Il Corriere believes that Milan are making almost a fifth less in revenue than last year and need to make some budget cuts to remain healthy.

Tassotti: 'It's Leonardo's decision'
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan’s assistant manager Mauro Tassotti admits that Leonardo’s future is in doubt. “It’s his decision.”

Speculation has been rife that the Brazilian tactician will move on at the end of the season following very public criticism from President Silvio Berlusconi.

“There is very little I can say on Leonardo’s future,” commented his second in command Tassotti.

“It is his decision and that of the club. We would be very happy if he were to stay.”

The Rossoneri are celebrating this evening after lifting the Primavera Coppa Italia trophy, beating the Palermo youngsters 2-0 at San Siro.

“They play good football and it would be great to bring a few of them up to the senior squad.

“These players are technically gifted and very interesting, while they’re also able to sustain a high tempo.”

Sacked Allegri in demand
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Cagliari are refusing to discuss why Massimiliano Allegri was fired, but he’s now free to consider offers from Juventus, Fiorentina, Milan and more.

Last night the Sardinians caused shockwaves when they sacked their Coach and handed the reins to Primavera youth team boss Giorgio Melis and former player Gianluca Festa.

President Massimo Cellino is not speaking to the media and won’t return from Miami until Friday, while the club has now imposed a Press silence over players and staff.

It is widely reported the reason behind this sudden split was Allegri’s refusal to sign a contract extension, as he has been of interest to several top sides.

Although the 43-year-old’s deal does not expire until 2011, it’s unlikely Cagliari will try to block his passage to another club in the summer.

Fiorentina were looking at Allegri as a replacement should Cesare Prandelli opt to move on for Juventus or the Italy bench.

However, he was also challenging Prandelli for that job at Juve along with Rafa Benitez of Liverpool.

Rumours that Milan are set to part company with Leonardo are increasingly common and Allegri would represent a similar push towards young, relatively inexperienced Coaches.

In fact, he had been among the favourites for San Siro last season when Carlo Ancelotti left for Chelsea, as his entertaining approach to football is a favourite of President Silvio Berlusconi.

Sampdoria are more contenders after Gigi Del Neri hinted he was unsure about his future with the Blucerchiati.

Del Neri is currently in joint fourth place, but his contract expires in the summer.

Ambrosini: 'Leonardo's future is in his hands'
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan captain Massimo Ambrosini believes Leonardo's future at the club is in his hands.

There is mounting speculation that the rookie tactician will leave in the summer, possibly replacing Dunga in charge of Brazil, as his contract is due to expire after the World Cup.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, Ambrosini said: “I believe that the future of the Mister is in his hands and that he has every right to take an eventual decision on the basis of what has been his experience.

“Being a Coach, I believe that his conclusions will be based on what can be his future. Aside from everything, the players and the club cannot but thank him for the work that he has done. It was not easy starting with the conditions here at the start of the season.

“We need to honour him for what he has done. What he says in the Press Conferences - that we need to concentrate on the present - corresponds with the thoughts of the team.

“The remaining games could still mean a lot. Many things can happen in football. The important thing is to arrive at the end conscious of having done everything like the team has done this season.”

When asked to reflect on the title race, Ambrosini said: “The match point is with the other teams because Milan are behind them at the moment.

“There is a slight regret because we have thrown away some chances. At this point there is little point in looking back. There are five games left and what is done is done.

“With respect to our opponents we have got fewer points. Perhaps we had a few more injuries, but anyway we must be conscious of having played some bad games and we rightly got little from them,” he concluded.

AC Milan to focus on youth
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani insists that the club wants to get as much out of its youth sector as possible.

Galliani has been encouraged by the progress of Luca Antonini and Ignazio Abate who both came through the ranks at Milanello and are now regulars in the first team after several spells out on loan.

Speaking to Tuttosport, Galliani said: “I wanted to reinforce the structure of the youth sector to get it back to a very high level.

“We can confirm that a new era began for the Rossoneri's academy in the summer of 2009. We'll keep investing a lot in the youth sector.

“Today, we are in the Coppa Italia Final with the Primavera who are also second in the championship. We are fighting until the end,” he concluded.

Milan have tried to trim their transfer budget over the last year, signing players for free and bringing youngsters back from their loan spells at other clubs.

AC Milan plan for after Leonardo
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan will appoint Mauro Tassotti and Filippo Galli if Leonardo decides to leave San Siro this summer.

The Brazilian tactician is said to have a strained relationship with Silvio Berlusconi and was apparently reluctant to take over from Carlo Ancelotti last summer after his time at the club as a director.

He has also been linked with the Brazil job, which should become available after the World Cup this summer when Dunga's contract expires.

If he does depart, Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani is keen to entrust the bench to Tassotti and Galli, two of the club's legends who have been working on the club's coaching staff for some time now.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Galliani will shore up the move by bringing Paolo Maldini back as a technical director.

In fact, Tuttosport agrees that Maldini will reprise the role Leonardo once had before becoming the Coach of the Rossoneri last summer.

Flamini decides to stay at AC Milan
14.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan midfielder Mathieu Flamini has decided to stay at the club amid interest from Premier League side Manchester City.

The 26-year-old France international has struggled to hold down a regular first team berth, but would like to fight for his place.

Speaking to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Flamini said: “It was a dream to come here.

“I had other possibilities when I left Arsenal, and I would also have them now, but my objective is to stay here and win something. Hopefully the Scudetto and fast.”

When asked to explain why he has played so little, Flamini replied: “You should ask the Coach. I have always worked hard and the new system should favour a player like me.

“At Arsenal we also played with two midfielders in front of the defence, Fabregas and I. It's the role I prefer.”

Flamini then didn't exactly discourage talk of Fabregas moving to Italy.

“I don't know if Italy is a country just for old players. I find myself well here. And anyway, Cesc will have my support in what ever he chooses to do,” he concluded.

Ronaldinho ready to sign new deal
13.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Ronaldinho has made a verbal agreement to extend his contract with Milan until 2014, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

The Rossoneri are keen to reward him after a good season in Serie A, but also requested that he take a 25 per cent pay cut in line with their efforts to trim the budget.

Ronaldinho will only put pen to paper though if Milan finish third and automatically qualify for next year's Champions League.

The news comes after reports that his brother who also works as his agent was in England last week, discussing an offer from Manchester City.

However, Ronaldinho looks set to reject City's overtures, in part because of his loyalty to Leonardo who has got him back playing at a high standard.

The 30-year-old is ready to acknowledge that if he does go to the World Cup this summer, it will be because of the faith Leo has shown in him.

He now plans to play another four years at San Siro before returning to Brazil where he will end his career, possibly with Flamengo.

AC Milan wanted Maldini back
13.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan apparently asked Paolo Maldini to come out of retirement after Alessandro Nesta's injury last month.

Il Corriere della Sera understands that Adriano Galliani was panicking about Milan's lack of options at the back.

Thiago Silva was the only fully fit centre-back at a crucial stage of the season and had to play alongside Giuseppe Favalli in a makeshift partnership.

Galliani is quoted as saying: “Paolo, there are seven games left until the end of the season. We are on course to win the Scudetto. Do you feel like participating in the title challenge?”

Maldini was apparently honoured by the proposal but also surprised after 10 months out of the game.

The 41-year-old has kept in shape, boxing and playing 5-a-side with his friends, but as Il Corriere notes, it's unlikely that he would have the fitness to defend against the likes of Cassano, Miccoli, Gilardino or even Amauri who are all set to face Milan.

Maldini took 24 hours to consider Milan's proposal, consulting his family, before declining it.

He is looking for a role as a director, not as a player.

'I hope Leonardo stays at AC Milan'
13.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani hopes that Leonardo stays at the club this summer amid speculation that he will leave.

The rookie tactician is apparently tiring of Silvio Berlusconi and has also been linked with the Brazil job, which should become available after the World Cup when Dunga's contract expires.

“In 24 years of managing Milan I have found only one person who has given me my money back: Leonardo. But I will not allow him to be the gentleman again,” Galliani said.

Leonardo had a year left on his contract in March 2003, which had already been paid in full. The Brazilian was injured and felt he didn't deserve the money, so he gave it back to Galliani.

“Berlusconi also thinks like me," Galliani added. "I heard from him on Sunday evening. If we hadn't had Nesta, Pato and Beckham out for a long time, we would be top.

“Our squad is inferior to no-ones. Now there is a regret because Inter have relented and we haven't been able to profit, recording three draws at home.

“We still have confidence and easy or difficult fixture lists don't exist, as we have also lost points with Livorno…”

Lippi linked with AC Milan job
12.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Italy boss Marcello Lippi is being linked with the Milan job as speculation mounts that Leonardo will leave his post in the summer.

Milan were jeered off the pitch after yesterday's 2-2 draw at home to Catania.

Leonardo was disappointed with the fans' reaction even though the Rossoneri missed another opportunity to move closer to the top of the table.

The Brazilian was upset by comments Silvio Berlusconi made last week about his side's inability to score goals.

Sections of the Italian media believe it could be the straw that broke the camel's back, as Leonardo is already being linked with other jobs.

The Brazilian FA apparently would like him to take over from Dunga after the World Cup in South Africa this summer.

La Stampa understands that if Leo were to leave, Milan would do everything to hire Lippi in his place.

Lippi is expected to step down from the Italy job after the World Cup.

He has been linked with Juventus since last summer, although both parties have tried to distance themselves from such a move.

Leonardo: 'It's still wide open'

Source: Football Italia

Despite falling four points off new leaders Roma, Leonardo remains “optimistic” that Milan can challenge for the title.

They had the opportunity to close the gap, but had to fight back from 2-0 down to scrape a 2-2 home draw with Catania.

“We are not giving up anything,” insisted the Coach. “I repeat, we are not going to give up on our targets.

“Roma are the form team in Serie A right now, but they have some difficult fixtures coming up, while Inter continue to drop points. I think it's all still wide open.”

Marco Borriello's brace made up for dismal defensive errors that had allowed Maxi Lopez and Adrian Ricchiuti to score.

“The second half made me happy, but we simply didn't play in the first half. We got the wrong approach to the game and were playing at too slow a tempo. It was bad, but after the break we got ourselves out of a difficult situation.

“I liked the reaction that my team had in the circumstances. I was surprised by the attitude of the fans today, as they seemed to take a step back.

“I hope we can end this season on a high, as the lads deserve it. It's true we are struggling with fitness and injury issues, but I see a great hunger to overcome them with team spirit.”

Scorers: Maxi Lopez 12 (C), Ricchiuti 43 (C), Borriello 48, 80 (M)

Milan fought back from 2-0 down with a Marco Borriello brace, but it's not enough to stop them effectively dropping out of the title battle.

The Rossoneri insisted they were still in the Scudetto race, but needed to take advantage of Inter's slip-up at Fiorentina last night. They welcomed a Catania side full of enthusiasm after giant-killing sprees against Inter, Juventus, Fiorentina and Palermo. Jorge Martinez, Augustyn, Cristian Llama and the suspended Silvestre didn't make the trip. Milan missed David Beckham, Alessandro Nesta, Alexandre Pato, Daniele Bonera and Marek Jankulovski.

Straight away Ronaldinho scuffed a volley off target, but it was Catania who took a shock lead at San Siro.

Adrian Ricchiuti threaded through to release Maxi Lopez and the snooker shot was not particularly powerful, but precise enough to slide across Nelson Dida and into the far bottom corner.

Catania continued to pour on the pressure and Terlizzi blasted a corner over the bar from six yards.

A free kick was touched on for Clarence Seedorf to sting Mariano Andujar's palms. The goalkeeper timed his intervention perfectly to pluck Dinho's cross off the head of Marco Borriello.

Ronaldinho was furious when the referee awarded a free kick against him, as Alvarez had seemed to push the Brazilian over in the box.

Borriello had a good chance, forcing Andujar into a save at his feet from Ronaldinho's cross.

However, it was Catania who went 2-0 up with a classic counter-attack! Maxi Lopez got to the byline and chipped up a cross for Ricchiuti's free header from six yards. Ricchiuti had also started the move and spread the play for Lopez, but nobody was marking him.

Ignazio Abate's angled drive was deflected out for a corner, but Milan's finishing remained horribly disappointing.

The Rossoneri got themselves back into the game after the restart. Seedorf knocked down Andrea Pirlo's cross for Borriello's header from six yards.

Borriello wanted a penalty because he was trying to turn in the box, but Giuseppe Mascara was holding on to his wrist. Mathieu Flamini replaced the injured Giuseppe Favalli, so Massimo Ambrosini had to improvise as a centre-back.

Dida palmed a Mascara free kick over the bar. Leonardo threw on Pippo Inzaghi and Amantino Mancini.

Borriello completed the comeback from 2-0 down with 10 minutes to go. He chested down Abate's cross from the right and thumped the right-foot finish past Andujar from eight yards with Inzaghi getting out of the way.

Catania nearly restored their lead following a series of howlers from Dida and Ambrosini, but the goalkeeper was able to capture the ball before Maxi Lopez could make the most of it.

The final minutes were simply a siege on Andujar's goal. Inzaghi got round the back of Nicolas Spolli to reach Pirlo's ball over the top, but stumbled and fired at Andujar's legs.

Another Inzaghi chest and volley was smothered on the ground.

Milan: Dida; Abate, Thiago Silva, Favalli (Flamini 63), Antonini; Pirlo, Ambrosini; Seedorf (Mancini 74); Ronaldinho, Borriello, Huntelaar (Inzaghi 74)

Catania: Andujar; Alvarez, Spolli, Terlizzi, Capuano; Ricchiuti (Delvecchio 72), Carboni (Ledesma 61), Biagianti; Izco (Potenza 83), Lopez, Mascara

Leonardo to quit after Berlusconi jibes?
11.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

There are increasing reports that Leonardo will quit Milan at the end of the season after more public criticism from President Silvio Berlusconi.

Vice-President Adriano Galliani again denied there were question marks over the tactician’s future.

However, the Corriere dello Sport claims Leo is irritated at the constant sniping remarks made by Berlusconi to the media.

Already this season the patron had said “Milan are a great squad, if only they’d be allowed to play good football.”

This week Berlusconi commented “our strikers are too far away from the goal, how are they supposed to score?”

Leonardo snapped back a few months ago by stating he only needed “the word” to step aside if his work was not appreciated at Milan.

Considering the Brazil job could be available after the World Cup, he is not short on options.

Among the candidates to replace Leonardo are Mauro Tassotti and Filippo Galli, both former players of Il Grande Milan who are now in the Coaching staff.

Another intriguing alternative is current Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri.

Mihajlovic: 'We can beat AC Milan'
11.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Sinisa Mihajlovic has warned Milan that his Catania side is in no mood to drop points at San Siro. “We’re the giant-killers.”

The Elefantini have put together some remarkable results over the past few months, beating the likes of Inter, Juventus and Palermo.

“The fact we are nicknamed the giant-killers highlights our strong mentality,” said the Coach ahead of Sunday’s game.

“We try to beat everyone, so even if it is a difficult task in Milan, our fighting spirit remains the same.

“The great thing is we know that we have what it takes to hurt them at any moment. It will be a fantastic game.”

Milan are still in the Scudetto race, but failure to beat Catania this weekend would effectively end their hopes.

“Could they lose the title because of Catania? That is not our concern. Catania focus only on ourselves and will put the usual grit on to the field.”

The recent positive run of results has put the Sicilians on the verge of securing safety, but they have lost Cristian Llama and Jorge Martinez to injury.

“We will have to adapt, even if these are key players. I have always said from what I’ve seen that Catania could easily belong among the top seven teams in Serie A,” insisted Mihajlovic.

“We are called to give 100 per cent right to the end in order to ensure our safety. Leonardo’s side is doing very well and will seek a victory at all costs, but we will be ready for them.”

Flamini makes AC Milan pledge

Mathieu Flamini confirms he “would like to stay on at Milan” next season despite not being a regular starter.

There are reports the former Arsenal midfielder is considering a move after failing to earn a consistent place in the starting XI.

“I would like to stay on at Milan,” he told journalists at a charity event organised by teammate Clarence Seedorf.

There are also doubts over the future of Coach Leonardo, who has been linked with the Brazil job after the World Cup.

“I don’t know if Leonardo will be here next season. I am a Milan player and my job is only to give my all on the field,” continued Flamini.

The Rossoneri are still in the hunt for the Scudetto and only three points adrift of leaders Inter.

“The fixture list is not easy for anyone, there are still six rounds and we will give it our all.”

Huntelaar targets debut Scudetto
8.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Klaas-Jan Huntelaar believes he can win the Scudetto in his debut Serie A season. “Milan can take it.”

The Dutchman had a dismal start to his San Siro career and was expected to move on in January, but has now scored some decisive goals to put them within three points of leaders Inter.

“I hope that I can look back and remember my first year at Milan with the Scudetto and we can still take it, even if there are two teams in front of us,” he told Studio Sport.

“We need to win the next two or three games, then see if the other contenders drop points in that time.”

Considered a flop at first, the signing from Real Madrid has an average of a goal every 111 minutes.

This is a better record than both Alexandre Pato and Marco Borriello this season.

“I had to adapt to Italian football and it’s easier to do that if you play regularly,” explained Huntelaar.

“Recently I have been used more and was able to score goals. I like proving myself on the big stage, but I can only do that by playing well and hitting the back of the net.”

Six finals await AC Milan, says Ronaldinho
8.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Ronaldinho believes that if Milan play their last six games as if they are finals, then the Rossoneri might win the Scudetto.

Milan currently lie third in Serie A, three points adrift of League leaders Inter.

Speaking to the Milan Channel, Ronaldinho said: “I feel good. Now the last six games have arrived and they are very important.

“All the remaining games from here until the end of the season are like finals for us.

“We still have a chance to say our piece. We must get as many points as possible and then look at what the other teams do.

“We must only think about doing our job to the best of our abilities and look forward.”

Finally Ronaldinho was asked about his chances of going to the World Cup.

“To tell the truth I only have Milan in my head. I am thinking about doing my best here and finishing the season well.

“After that we'll see what comes,” he concluded.

Thiago Silva believes in the Scudetto

Milan's Brazilian centre-back Thiago Silva insists that his side still have a very good chance of winning the Scudetto this season.

The Rossoneri currently lie third in Serie A just three points behind League leaders Inter despite winning only two of their last six games.

Speaking to Sky Italia, Thiago reflected on his first season with the club.

“Nesta is a great player. He has helped me a lot and now we miss him a little, but Favalli has played fantastic games.

“Beppe is 38 and he seems like a young lad. Anyway, our defence also starts up front, with Borriello when he does his job well.

“In the middle there are players like Pirlo and Ambrosini who do very well. And behind them, Favalli and I are doing what we have to do very well too.

“We hope to keep playing like this.

“I came to Milan to win and I still have in my head the fact that we can win the championship. There are six games left.

“We must work on our mentality to have success,” Thiago concluded.

AC Milan serious about Cacau

Milan have made the signing of Stuttgart striker Cacau a priority this summer, according to several reports in the Italian media.

The 29-year-old Brazilian who has a German passport is available on a free transfer at the end of this season, making him especially attractive to bargain hunting Milan.

Cacau is predominantly a second striker capable of playing in the hole or on either flank, which makes him ideal for Milan's three-pronged attack.

He rarely gets into double figures in the scoring charts, but his ability to make the attack function better as a whole makes him a valuable commodity.

He has regular Champions League experience and was a key component of the Stuttgart side that were knocked out of the second round stage by Barcelona this season.

Benzema - Pato swap is impossible

The agent of Real Madrid striker Karim Benzema has rubbished claims that his client is moving to Milan in exchange for Alexandre Pato.

Benzema has found it hard to adjust to life in Madrid after moving from Lyon last summer and many feel he might be sold at the end of this season.

Speaking to calciomercato.it, Benzema's agent, Karim Djaziri said: “I have not read any of these rumours.

“The only thing I can say is that Karim is very happy at Real Madrid.

“I have not heard anything about this and I don't usually pay attention to transfer rumours.

“I want to underline that Benzema is happy where he is,” Djaziri concluded.

Pato got Madrid's attention when he scored twice in Milan's 3-2 victory at the Santiago Bernabeu in October.

Leonardo's future remains unclear at AC Milan

There is mounting speculation that Leonardo will not be in charge of Milan next season despite statements to the contrary from the club.

The rookie tactician has done a good job in his first year at the helm, so much so that Brazil are said to be lining him up to replace Dunga after the World Cup in South Africa this summer.

When asked at the weekend if Leonardo would be staying at Milan, Adriano Galliani said: “Absolutely yes. Leonardo will be Milan's Coach next season as well.

“No one has ever thought about another Coach. The situation is different from the one with Ancelotti a year ago when there was an agreement to remain quiet until we realised the objective of qualifying for the Champions League.”

Leonardo has practically ensured Milan will be playing in Europe's elite club competition next season as they have a 12-point cushion on fourth placed Palermo.

Tuttosport understands that only winning the Scudetto will absolutely convince Leonardo to remain at the club.

After all, he has argued with Milan patron Silvio Berlusconi on more than one occasion this season.

AC Milan target the new Vieira

Milan are apparently keen to sign Le Mans midfielder Herold Goulon who has been compared with Patrick Vieira.

The talented 21-year-old is out of contract at the end of this season and would provide Massimo Ambrosini and Rino Gattuso with greater competition.

It remains to be seen what Milan's interest in Goulon means for Mathieu Flamini who could join Vieira at Manchester City this summer.

Il Corriere dello Sport understands that Goulon's agents are awaiting a reply from Milan before taking other offers from clubs in France.

Milan are keen to reinforce their midfield ahead of next season.

They have also been linked with Getafe's young winger Pedro Leon, although he would cost around €10m.

Zambrotta makes World Cup plea

Milan full-back Gianluca Zambrotta has pleaded with Italy boss Marcello Lippi to take him to the World Cup this summer.

The 33-year-old is a favourite of Lippi's, having played under him at Juventus.

He has struggled with injuries this season, making just 16 starting appearances in Serie A.

“Dear Marcello, actually no, that's too confidential,” Zambrotta joked on an Italian chat show.

“Dear Mister, I am ready! Take me to the World Cup.”

Zambrotta then made one final request that could ultimately count against him.

“And if he scores 20 goals, could you also take Cassano,” he concluded.

Lippi has resisted calling up the Sampdoria playmaker because of concerns about his temperament.

Galliani fears Catania

Following their spectacular win over Cagliari, Milan are still in the race for the Scudetto but Adriano Galliani fears they may drop points in their next clash.

The Rossoneri are set to face Catania, perhaps the most in form Serie A side at the moment, and it won't be easy for them.

“We are still in the running, keeping up with Inter and Roma,” explained Galliani.

“If we didn't beat Cagliari then we wouldn't be able to say we have still a chance to win. Instead we can now look forward to winning the last six games of this championship.

“With Catania it won't be easy though. They are a solid side and we will have to watch out because they can hit us on the counter.

“There are six games left, potentially 18 points for us. Something like 11 seasons ago we won all seven games to win the Scudetto.

“Let's hope our win against Cagliari was the first of seven…” concluded the Diavolo Vice-President.

Milan currently sit third in the table, three points away from Inter and two from Roma.

Leonardo 'suffered' in Sardinia

Leonardo continues to believe in Milan's Scudetto chances even after “the game I suffered the most in” at Cagliari.

The Rossoneri remain three points off leaders Inter after a hard-fought 3-2 victory at the Stadio Sant'Elia.

“It is one of the games I suffered the most in,” sighed the Coach. “Generally I tend to be more relaxed on the touchline. It was a struggle, though we played an extraordinary first half.

“We needed courage to face it this way with that trident attack. The system was a little forced, but we managed to handle it well for the first 45 minutes.”

The top three all won this afternoon, so the situation remains static in the Scudetto race.

“We have always maintained the same attitude, that there are now six rounds left and we are still close by. I'm happy with our performance today and that is what gives us the opportunity to do something incredible.

“We have been able to play quite a few games at this level. That's what Milan are like.

“I won't talk about the defence, as the attack is more important right now. This is our philosophy, to go forward and create danger.”

Serie A: Cagliari 2:3 AC Milan - match report

Scorers: Borriello 7 (M), Ragatzu 17 (C), Huntelaar 19 (M), Matri 32 (C), Astori og 37 (M)

Milan earned the points in a spectacular five-goal thriller, but Cagliari can feel they deserved more after going down to an unlucky own goal.

This was the Rossoneri's last chance to stay in the Scudetto race after picking up just six points from the last five games. The absentee list included Christian Abbiati, Alexandre Pato, David Beckham, Alessandro Nesta, Pippo Inzaghi, Amantino Mancini, Marek Jankulovski and the suspended Mathieu Flamini. Cagliari hadn't won since February 21 and had striker Nene' out on a ban. Ronaldinho and Andrea Pirlo returned from their bans to bolster Milan.

The Rossoneri took the lead with their first real opportunity. Clarence Seedorf flicked on a through ball with the outside of his boot for Marco Borriello to run in and strike at the near post.

It was almost 2-0 when Seedorf's backheel set up Luca Antonini for a close-range finish on the side-netting.

However, Cagliari equalised in a chaotic move. Milan seemed to assume play had been stopped when Daniele Conti fell under a Giuseppe Favalli challenge, but youth team player Daniele Ragatzu kept his cool to fire in from nine yards with a rising strike.

The situation lasted barely 120 seconds, as Klaas-Jan Huntelaar scored a fantastic goal to restore Milan's advantage. He was a good 30 metres away when he unleashed a screamer of a left-foot strike under the bar!

Ronaldinho combined brilliantly with Borriello on the counter and the Italian's left-foot volley was just over the bar.

It proved costly, as Pirlo lost the ball in midfield to spark a counter and Andrea Cossu rolled across for an unmarked Alessandro Matri to stroke in with the inside of his right foot.

Milan restored their lead with a bizarre own goal. Ignazio Abate's cross was punched away by Federico Marchetti, but only on to the knee of teammate Astori and it ricocheted back into the net.

Borriello hit a weak effort straight at the goalkeeper and on the counter Cossu wanted a penalty when he was crowded out by Pirlo and Giuseppe Favalli.

After the restart Ragatzu's chip skimmed the frame of the goal. On 58 minutes Ragatzu ran rings around Favalli for his shot to come off Nelson Dida's ankle, then the follow-up from Cossu was charged down by Antonini from point-blank range.

Marchetti captured a Ronaldinho free kick and Dida flew to palm away Matri's strike, but it was all Cagliari in the closing stages.

On 84 minutes Dida required a stunning double reaction save to deny Joaquin Larrivey's bullet header and the follow-up.

In stoppages Zambrotta got himself in the way to deflect Matri's header off target at the back post.

Cagliari: Marchetti; Pisano, Canini, Astori, Agostini; Biondini (Larrivey 83), Conti, Lazzari (Dessena 63); Cossu; Matri, Ragatzu (Jeda 73)

Milan: Dida; Abate, Thiago Silva, Favalli, Antonini; Seedorf, Pirlo (Gattuso 73), Ambrosini; Huntelaar (Zambrotta 60), Borriello, Ronaldinho

Pato still believes in AC Milan challenge
3.4 || webmaster

Alexandre Pato reiterated his belief today that the Rossoneri can pip Inter & Roma to the Scudetto.

We have been missing the influential striker for over a month, with only a brief appearance in-between where he could only mange 10 minutes. With Inter still in the Champions League this could be the year for AC Milan to capitalize, although critics would argue that Milan have missed their chance to seize the advantage when Inter were beaten by Catania a few weeks ago.

Milan also have arguably the hardest run in out of the three title contenders especially when their last game is against wounded animals, Juventus.

Pato isn't the only Milan player that has come out this week & backed the squad to push Inter all the way. Earlier in the week Ignazio Abate suggested that the squad had enough about them to win the title.

Allegri expects AC Milan breakthrough

Massimiliano Allegri feels Cagliari can beat Milan, end their winless streak and make a last-ditch stab at European qualification.

“It isn’t easy against a side like Milan, but it is our moral duty to give it our best shot,” said the Coach.

The Sardinians are without a victory since February 21, but remain one of the revelations of the season and can still qualify for the Europa League.

“It is satisfying to see the Sant’Elia sold out for tomorrow’s game and the players deserve it. I think in these situations a Coach doesn’t even need to fire up his squad.

“I have few doubts over the right-back role and consequently midfield as well. Francesco Pisano trained all week, but can’t play 90 minutes yet.”

Nene is suspended after his red card at Sampdoria last week, but Andrea Cossu returns from his ban.

“I haven’t made my decisions over the attack either, but Daniele Ragatzu is on level terms with his more senior teammates. He has quality and is doing very well.”

Leonardo believes in the Scudetto

Milan boss Leonardo believes his side are still on course to win the Scudetto this season despite going three matches without a victory.

The Rossoneri missed the opportunity to go top nearly two weeks ago and have since dropped to third place in Serie A.

They lie three points adrift of League leaders Inter ahead of tomorrow's trip to Cagliari.

“Recent results have not been good but we are still three points from the top and two from Roma who are perhaps the healthiest team out of the three,” Leonardo explained.

“Moreover, we will have the chance to prepare for just one game a week while Inter could play 13 more matches and Roma nine from now until the end of the season.

“It's all open,” he added.

Leonardo then commented on reports linking him with a move away from Milan in the summer.

“I will speak about my future when it's more important than the present,” he concluded.

Mazzarri could replace Leonardo at AC Milan
2.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Napoli boss Walter Mazzarri is one of the favourites to replace Leonardo if he leaves Milan at the end of the season.

Speculation has been rife in Italy this week after Brazil President Lula expressed his wish to see Leonardo in charge of the national team at the 2014 World Cup.

Whether Leo replaces Dunga after the World Cup in South Africa this summer remains to be seen, but Milan appear to be preparing themselves for the worst.

Yesterday it was widely reported that Leo's assistant, Mauro Tassotti, is ready to step into his shoes should there be a change at San Siro.

However, Tuttosport understands Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has been impressed by the job Mazzarri has done at Napoli this season.

The former Livorno and Sampdoria boss has inspired Napoli from 15th to fifth place in Serie A.

At one stage they even went on a 13-match unbeaten run.

If Milan failed to lure Mazzarri away from the San Paolo, they then might approach Marcello Lippi should he step down from the Italy job after the World Cup this summer.

Borriello: Inter will collapse

Source: Football Italia

Milan striker Marco Borriello has told his team-mates not to give up on their title ambitions because he believes that Inter will collapse.

The Rossoneri currently lie third in Serie A, just three points adrift of the League leaders with seven games remaining this season.

Interviewed in La Gazzetta dello Sport, the 27-year-old was asked if he still feels Milan have a chance of winning the Scudetto.

“Yes and I'll explain why. We had a small blip, but we are still only three points behind Inter. And we are working all week, from here until the end of the season, preparing for the games. It's not a small advantage.

“I won't give a percentage, I'll use an adjective: we have good possibilities. Actually, the possibilities are more than good.

“Milan are a team who are alive and we will demonstrate as much. We have relented a little, I don't deny it, but if we were to have won against Napoli and Lazio no one would have cried scandal. The only game we got wrong was that against Parma.

“You're right, our run in is very difficult. We have tough matches ahead. But it's not as if Roma and Inter can go on the pitch with their reserves.

“Inter are still in the Champions League and for six straight weeks they have been playing every three days. I believe that they can soften up, that they can leave some nervous energy on the pitch. I am saying that they will pay for their double workload.”

Ronaldinho inclined to stay at AC Milan
2.4 || webmaster

Source: Football Italia

Ronaldinho looks set to reject the overtures of Brazilian giants Flamengo and sign a new contract with Milan.

The 30-year-old's brother, who also acts as his agent, met with Flamengo directors yesterday to discuss their interest.

The Brazilian champions are keen to lure Ronie back to his homeland and feel that the prospect of playing alongside Adriano would tempt him further.

However, La Gazzetta dello Sport understands that Ronaldinho has actually settled in Milan as demonstrated in his improved form this season.

Therefore despite reports to the contrary earlier this week, Ronie would be inclined to sign a new two-year contract even though it foresees a 25 per cent wage cut.

If something were to break in Ronaldinho's relationship with Milan, a move to the Premier League would be more likely than one back to Brazil.

However, the former World Player of the Year is expected to return to his homeland before the Brazil World Cup in 2014.

AC Milan have Tassotti option

Mauro Tassotti is in line to be handed the Milan coaching job if Leonardo walks at the end of the campaign.

Despite turning an apparently mediocre Rossoneri side into Scudetto contenders, the Brazilian Coach’s future at the club is in doubt.

A report in the Corriere dello Sport last week suggested that the Brazilian Football Federation have Leonardo’s name on a shortlist of potential new Coaches.

Carlos Dunga, the former Pescara and Fiorentina player, is unlikely to be in charge for the 2014 World Cup which is set to be staged in Brazil.

Leonardo’s efforts with the Rossoneri this season have been noted in his homeland following his maiden managerial appointment.

Despite no coaching experience, Leonardo was handed control of the Diavolo after Carlo Ancelotti left for Premiership side Chelsea last summer.

Leonardo had a difficult start to the campaign and did risk the chop before turning the Rossoneri into surprise title candidates.

Leonardo did admit earlier this term that Milan would be the only club side that he would lead in his career, but he did have dreams of bossing his national side too.

If he does depart then Tassotti could be promoted to the top job, again according to the Corriere dello Sport.

The former Rossoneri right-back has been assistant boss at the club since Ancelotti’s days but could be on the verge of promotion.

If he is given the post then Filippo Galli, another San Siro legend, is being lined up to be his No 2.
