Roma's president Franco Sensi has revealed that he has been approached by Milan for Japanese creative hub Hidetoshi Nakata.

Milan need a new creative star as Leonardo has left and Boban is now veteran-class. Nakata featured just 15 times for the giallorossi in the Scudetto-winning campaign and Sensi admitted that if Rui Costa goes elsewhere, Milan look favourites to sign the Japanese international. "If Milan fail to sign Manuel Rui Costa, then I think Nakata will be their next objective," he said.

Spurs chasing Sheva
30.6 || webmaster

Tottenham are ready to shatter their transfer record to lure Andrei Shevchenko from Milan as they seek to unite the 24-year-old with his Ukraine strike partner Sergei Rebrov.
Glenn Hoddle hopes to negotiate the signing in the next fortnight and is willing to swap Norway's Steffen Iversen as part of a deal worth around Ł30million.

Shevchenko, among the world's finest goalscorers, is unhappy at Milan, who failed to qualify for next season's Champions League. He has made it clear he would jump at the chance to play in the Premiership and, in particular, alongside Rebrov.

The pair formed a formidable partnership with Dynamo Kiev and continue to shine for Ukraine. The indications last night were that Shevchenko is willing to spurn offers from Real Madrid or Barcelona in favour of White Hart Lane.

"Andrei's situation at Milan is not the best and definitely he wishes to play with Sergei," said Sandor Varga, Rebrov's agent and a close friend and advisor to Shevchenko. "If you put these two players together in one club there is no question the club will be successful.

"The fact that Tottenham are not in the Champions League would not be a reason for Andrei not to join them. Milan are not in the Champions League either, and England is his first choice.

Tottenham last night denied they were planning to buy Shevchenko but it is understood their owners Enic are trying to work out a deal. Any offer of Iversen could interest Milan, not least because the 24-year-old is remembered there from the Rosenborg team that triumphed in the San Siro in 1996 to eliminate Milan from the Champions League.

Although Shevchenko would still cost a fortune in fees and wages, Enic's billionaire founder, Joe Lewis, is intent on making a success of Tottenham and the new owners were yesterday preparing to unveil Liverpool's Christian Ziege as their latest signing, joining Teddy Sheringham, Gus Poyet and the defender Goran Bunjevcevic.

Shevchenko has scored 24 goals in each of his two seasons in Serie A since moving to Milan from Dynamo Kiev for Ł16m. He was Italy's top scorer in 1999-2000 and finished second behind Hernan Crespo of Lazio last season.

Rui says no to Parma but Milan is out of the race
29.6 || webmaster

Fiorentina’s Portuguese midfielder Manuel Rui Costa has rejected the multi-million dollar offer made to him by Serie A side Parma. The reason behind Rui Costa’s decision is that he would prefer to go play with Real Madrid or Lazio, teams that would guarantee him greater possibilities of silverware.

AC Milan, that was indicated as the favored side to clinch Rui Costa, have now withdrawn from the race to sign the Portugal international as they don’t have enough money to finalize the deal. All of Milan’s financial efforts are infact being spent on Juve striker Pippo Inzaghi, a deal that is set to be officialized early next week.

Parma had offered Fiorentina $75 million dollars (the amount Viola chairman Cecchi Gori needs to cancel the team’s debts) and half of Brazilian striker Marcio Amoroso in exchange for Rui Costa, Toldo, and half of Nuno Gomes.

Restructure, please Silvio!
27.6 || webmaster

Another season, another empty feeling for Rossoneri tifosi world-wide. Sixth place in Serie A preceded by last season's third place finish is remarkably bad for a five time European champion club.
Milan are no longer seen as a major force in Italian football, let alone world football. Let's be honest, without the Ukranian, Milan would have finished nearer the relegation zone, if not Serie B.
Their European performances at the San Siro for the last couple of years have been atrocious.

Milan seem happier at remaining unbeaten rather than risking their point for a victory. It has been very saddening to see Milan eclipsed by the likes of Roma and Parma this season in Italy and by Galatasary and Deportivo in Europe.

The annihilation of Inter in the derby match was a rare treat for Milan fans, but too rare a treat for my liking.

Consistency is required.

For consistent results hard working players are needed.

Injuries to Redondo, Gattuso and Ambrosini this season have crippled the midfield, but isn't that the idea of having a world class squad in the first place? Recently Galliani has been warning Terim that he must sell before he buy. Where is the problem in that? Terim should call Galliani's bluff and sell 10 or 11 of those fringe players who quite simply are not good enough to play in the first team. With the money made from selling these players he could purchase maybe 3 or 4 world class players.

If Milan were to streamline their playing staff, as Galliani 'favours', they could concentrate on constructing a smaller squad of perhaps 22 world class players.

Next season we only have the league and the UEFA cup to compete in (forget the Coppa Italia, everyone else does).

So please Silvio, Adriano, Terim or whoever is currently holding the strings restructure the squad.

Milan can only be made big again by paradoxically reducing the number of players in their squad.

C. Zenoni: "I'm not afraid of competition"

MILANO - In addition to Massimo Donati from Atalanta comes also Cristian Zenoni. As expected, he reportedly said he's "extremely happy to play for a great club such as Milan is". Then adds: "As for all the rest I'll find out myself the day of the meeting".
"To come here at Milan - he affirms - is something I'm proud of. I'm well aware there'll be a lot to learn and also that competition will becombat-hardened. Many excellent players who widely proved their value. I believe they'll help me come out. I have strong will and enthusiasm, that's for sure. I think they will help me to stand out and and find great satisfaction".

At Milan he will meet many champions ("I'm looking forward to get to kknow them") but also some friends. In fact, Zenoni will find people he already played in the National with: "I'll find Coco and Ambrosini again, but also Gattuso and Comandini. I've been knowing them since the times of the Under 21. It will be great to share the same team and the same targets".

On the other hand, Cristian will depart from his twin brother Damiano after sharing a parallel carrier for 14 years. They only separated once, in the season 1997/98, when his brother was loaned to Alzano team, this after sharing the experience with Pistoia (loaned).

"If he's envious of me? No way. On the contrary, he was excited. Actually, I do hope that in the near future he'll have the chance to play for a great Club, may be joining me here at Milna....never know".

"Only, I think it'll be hard to persuade my family to change team... - he smiles - pretty tough job after so many years, but I'll make it".

Milan to inerhit 100 million Turkish fans according to Terim
21.6 || webmaster

Fatih Terim believes that Turks all over the world will become AC Milan supporters now that he has been appointed coach at the San Siro.

The Turkish coach arrived at Istanbul's Ataturk Airport on Wednesday night, having flown in from Milan where he put pen to paper on a two-year contract with the Italian giants.

He was greeted by a huddle of journalists and explained to them why he was so pleased with the deal. "The part that makes me so happy is that Milan will have 100 million more supporters because of me," he said.

"All the Turkish people – living at home and abroad in countries like Turkmenistan and Azerbaijan – will now follow Milan. My soul is still in Turkey, but my heart will be in Milan," he went on, adding that his first impressions of the club were extremely positive.

"Milan is a great club and I am very proud to be associated with such a professional institution. It's so organised – everyone has their own job and they know what they're doing," he explained.

The former Galatasaray boss is convinced that his appointment will help speed up the development of football in Turkey. "The fact that I have signed for Milan is a massive step for Turkey and for our football. This country will reap benefits from this," he insisted.

Terim also revealed that he does not intend to change his coaching style at the San Siro. "My philosophy will remain the same. We'll play positive, attacking football that the fans will enjoy watching," he said.

"Even the players will like my style. I am the boss, though, so only I will chose how we should play. The players have to carry out my plans on the pitch.

"Some people ask me what system I play. Is it a Dutch system, a French system or a Brazilian system? They don't understand. It's none of these – it's the Terim system."

Terim also made it clear that he intends to hold on to Argentinian midfielder Redondo, whose season was ruined before kicking a ball when he injured knee ligaments in October following his £11 million move from Real Madrid.

"I have spoken to Redondo and asked him to come over. He was in Spain, but we talked for half an hour," said the coach. "I told him that Milan need him playing again.

"I know his qualities and he has agreed to join us for training on July 16. He will be wearing a Milan shirt when we play Ajax in the Amsterdam tournament on July 26."

Redondo hinted back in January that he would be interested in moving back to Real Madrid after a disastrous six months at Milan.

Reggina vs. Milan - match summary and report
17.6 || webmaster

REGGIO CALABRIA - Milan's season ended with defeat against a Reggina side, that battling against relegation, were spurred on by great home support.
Cesare Maldini was happy to recall Giunti, Paolo Maldini and Kaladze after missing out last week due to suspension. However there were still many absentees (Redondo, Albertini, Ambrosini, Gattuso, Boban, Serginho, José Mari, Costacurta and Rossi).

Reggina started the stronger of the two teams. Zanchetta hit a free-kick that was deflected for a corner by Milan's defensive wall and again from a dead ball, Mezzano's well hit left foot shot was saved by Abbiati.

After twenty four minutes, another free-kick from Zanchetta went just wide of Abbiati's right hand post.
Inspired by the movement of Giunti and Leonardo (in his last match for Milan before returning to San Paolo), the Rossoneri then started to take hold of the game.

Leonardo struck a good left foot shot from outside the area, but Taibi reacted well and saved with his fists. Just three minutes later, on the half hour mark, Comandini headed just over the bar.
With seven minutes remaining to the half time whistle, Shevchenko went close to scoring, his header forcing Taibi to make another good save.

Despite the heat, the game continued to be played at a fast pace. Shevchenko went close to opening the scoring again ten minutes into the second half when his header was yet again blocked by Tiabi. Reggina replied with a good shot from Marazzina, but Abbiatio saved at the second attempt.

Milan took the lead twenty three minutes into the second half. Receiving a throw in, from outside the area Kaladze controlled the ball well, entered the area and beat Taibi with a left foot shot.
Despite looking relegation in the face, Reggina kept their heads up and desperately looked to turn the result around.

Da Costa came on with twenty five minutes remaining and played a crucial part for the home side. Just a minute after entering the action he hit the post from outside the area. Reggina continued to attack, with both Dionigi and Marazzina coming close to equalising.

With just thirteen minutes remaining, Reggina continued attacking and from a corner Stovini found Morabito who beat Abbiati with his left foot to level the score.
Four minutes later substitute Da Costa beat the out coming Milan goalkeeper to score the winning goal for the home side.

Scorers: 68' Kaladze, 77' Morabito, 81' Da Costa

If it wasn’t for the too many injuries, for the missed matches and for his love for “the game”, Leonardo would still be with Milan. But he loves soccer and he wants to play, and that’s why he chose to go home and end his career there, in Brasil. It’s a simple story, and Leonardo says that it must not be a sad one.
“I don’t want my leaving Milan to become a reason for sadness and sorrow; I’m leaving this team happy for what I have accomplished and for everything I’ve learned here”, said Leonardo.
We must respect his wish and his decision, although it was taken against the will of most of the club’s officials and fans. We got used to thinking that he will be always there, that no matter where or when, injured or not, we can always count on his presence. Well, it’s no longer like this. He’s going back to Brazil, to end his career playing, enchanting the supporters and being once again “The great Leonardo”, a true artist of the field.
One thing is for sure: Leonardo, in his last match for Milan, will not only be the captain of the team, but the captain of all Milan fans’ heart.
Good luck and a big Thank you, Leonardo de Araujo Nascimento, for the magic moments you’ve given us. We, the fans, hope to hear from you soon, for this is not good-bye…

Inzaghi in Milan - 49% chance
12.6 || IVO

After a relatively quiet day for Adriano Galliani, he has spoken out on the situation regarding the possible transfer of Filippo Inizaghi to Milan for next season. "As it stands at the moment, I think there's a 49% chance that Inzaghi will be wearing the Red and Black uniform next season. We have made an offer to Juventus but they seek a higher price for Inzaghi. Niether side has changed their position as of yet. Due to this stalemate I'd say that there's only a 49% chance of the transfer being realized. Now we need to concentrate on filling a roster of 32 players. Inzaghi is not the only possibility in a move from the Bianconeri of Torino to Milano. Juventus coach Carlo Ancelotti is not expected to be at Juve for next season and Galliani is well aware of this. "The roads taken by both Milan and Ancelotti could meet", said Galliani.

Maldini praises Leonardo
11.6 || webmaster

The match between AC Milan and Brescia was, with that of Inter in Bari, to have nothing at the stake in this crucial Serie A round. Both teams arrived to this match with the respective targets already reached, and, as consequence of this, the emotions were not many.

Due all that after the final whistle the protagonists spoke more about their own matters, and AC Milan's coach Cesare Maldini talked about his possible future experience on the bench of Arabia Saudita.

"I'm very happy about this short adventure at the club - says Maldini - the team qualified for the Uefa Cup, and the balance is positive in the end; but I know that my future is not decided yet, and at the end of the next week I'll see what to do, even if, in case of departure, I should study the Arabian, because I the only language I know, but Italian, is the dialect of Trieste" joked the coach.

Maldini underlines also the fact that his club had to face great difficulties in this season, first of all the injuries; in Sunday's match AC Milan missed 10 players.

But the coach preferred to not sing a song already known at Zaccheroni's time, so he praised especially Leonardo, at his last home appearances with the club, and the Brazilian was the only true protagonist of the challenge.

"Leonardo is a terrific player and a great man, we'll all miss him; he's happy to come back in Brazil, but he's also disappointed because he has to leave Italy, even if we hope to meet him again as a collaborator one day".

Milan vs. Brescia - match report
10.6 || webmaster

MILAN – A draw at the San Siro between Milan and Brescia, with little excitement for the fans, particularly in the first half. The match was played at low rhythm by both sides, but the final result, thanks also to Atalanta’s home defeat, was enough for Milan to confirm their qualification for next season’s UEFA Cup.
In their last home match of the season, Milan again had to put out a makeshift eleven due to the many missing players. Four of the squad were out suspended (Paolo Maldini, Giunti, Kaladze and Serginho), while another six were injured (Costacurta, Albertini, Ambrosini, Redondo, Boban e Garcia). After only half an hour of the first half goalkeeper Sebastiano Rossi also had to leave the pitch due to a back problem. Cesare Maldini’s solution to the many absences was to move Helveg into an unfamiliar central midfield role alongside Gattuso. In defence, Sala and Chamot started the game.

Making his last ever appearance for the rossoneri at the San Siro, Leonardo took the captain’s armband and lined up behind a front pairing of Comandini and Shevchenko.

It was Brescia who had the first attempt on goal after just two minutes. Antonio Filippini, found by Bachini, dribbled past the out coming Rossi, but from his low cross Hubner missed the target.
Ten minutes later, Guly controlled a cross from Coco in the area and his left foot shot brushed Srnicek’s left hand post.

Just after the half hour mark Baggio and Calori combined for a free-kick from the edge of the area, saved without problem by Abbiati, having just replaced Rossi in goal.
With four minutes remaining to the interval, Shevchenko found himself the space to race into the area, immediately release Comandini, who controlled well, turned his marker, but shot over the crossbar.

In the second half the game picked up pace a little. A free-kick from Leonardo found Coco, who sent his header over the bar, while four minutes in Brescia went close with efforts from Hubner (blocked by Sala), Baggio and Diana. Baggio then hit a great free-kick that Abbiati was able to push away on the line.
After fifty six minutes Shevchenko found the net, knocking in a rebound after a header from Sala hit the bar. However referee Rosetti disallowed the goal for an offside against Milan’s striker.

Milan opened the scoring through Josè Mari, having just come on. With a great right foot shot past Srnicek, his goal on sixty eight minutes looked likely to be the only goal of a subdued game.
However, just two minutes later Bachini equalised with a good shot from the edge of the area.
The end of the game brought emotional moments for the fans, perhaps more than had been seen in the ninety minutes of football. Baggio went off to applause from all around the ground and his place was taken by ex Milan favourite Galli, to great appreciation from the fans.

As the players left the pitch, the fans saluted Leonardo, at the end of his last appearance at the San Siro wearing the shirt of Milan.

Contra completes move
9.6 || webmaster

Cosmin Contra is now an AC Milan player after the Alaves ace signed a four-year deal worth over £US 1m salary a year to the player.

The Romanian international explained why he chose to leave the UEFA Cup finalists and move to Italy when he said: "I have received quite a few offers from other clubs, including Real Madrid, but I chose to come to Milan - not just because their offer was the best on the market - but because this team has a serious project to get back at the top of European Football once again.”

"I came here to do even better than what I did in Spain. Maybe it's not a coincidence that AC Milan will also play the UEFA Cup next year just like Alaves did this season. However my number one goal is to win the Scudetto."

Contra, however, knows that life won't be that easy for him with the Rossoneri and that, unlike in Spain, he will have to fight hard to become a first choice.

He added: "I know that inside this team the competition is tough and I'm sure it will never be as easy as it was at Alaves where I have played each game."

"This is a difficult challenge and I know that here in Italy the pressure is much tougher than in Spain. It will be tough, but I'm not afraid of anything or anyone."

AC Milan and German international striker Oliver Bierhoff has admitted he is still uncertain about his future at the club.

The player says he is yet to speak with the management, but also denies that he is about to join Roberto Baggio at Brescia.

He said: "So far AC Milan's management has told me nothing about my future, nor have other clubs tried to reach me. I honestly don't know if Brescia and AC Milan have started some sort of negotiation.

"Next Tuesday I will speak with Adriano Galliani, the team's Vice-President. I've decided to do it myself because I no longer have an agent. After signing my last deal through Claudio Pasqualin (who is also Alessandro Del Piero's agent, amongst others) I decided to do things on my own.

"Let's get this straight. It's not that I had any kind of problem with Pasqualin and we parted as friends, but I prefer doing things by myself because this gives me the chance to take a closer look at the situation. In any case should I need any legal advice I would surely call him. As for my future I only want to know what the management really wants from me."

Terim to keep Helveg
8.6 || webmaster

Denmark international Thomas Helveg believes that Fatih Terim will be the new coach of AC Milan – and it is that appointment that will keep him with the Rossoneri for another three years.

"We seem to be getting Fatih Terim as manager for the coming season, and I am looking forward to that," Helveg said.

Persistent rumours had linked Helveg with a move away from the San Siro in the summer as he and Oliver Bierhoff are the two players most closely associated with Alberto Zaccheroni, who was dismissed as coach in March. Zaccheroni brought both players with him from Udinese in 1998, and their time had looked up, but Helveg at least is now set to stay.

"The negotiations should be terminated in near future," he told bold.dk, "but I am certain I will be staying in Milan for another three years. I expect it to be announced officially next week."

In March, the Dane was linked with a move to Spain, although he indicated even then that staying in Italy would be his preferred option. "My agent has informed me that a top Spanish side are interested in me," he said.

"I must, however, admit that I would prefer to stay in Italy. I have settled well in Italy. but football is my job and if I have to move, then must we take it from there."

Internazionale and Parma have also been linked with the 29-year-old.

It has long been one of the worst-kept secrets in football that Terim is to take the hot-seat at Milan next season, replacing caretaker-coaches Cesrae Maldini and Mauro Tassotti.

Rossoneri officials continue to deny any contact with Terim, but it is understood that he will be officially named as Milan's next manager when the Serie A season finishes in the middle of June.

Indeed, Terim's greatest supporter at former club Fiorentina, ex-Viola general manager Giancarlo Antognoni, has already been offered a post, while Antonio Di Gennaro is tipped to come in as assistant manager and Andrea Pazzagli as the goalkeeping coach.

Terim has revealed that he will return to Italy next season but denied that a deal with Milan had been concluded. "It is true that next season I will coach in Italy," said. "I don't want to give the Galatasaray fans any illusions. At least for the moment I am not going back to Turkey. Yes, I am hoping for a call from Milan."

Onefootball.com revealed last month that Galatasaray had failed in a bid to lure Terim for next season. "He said that he had just signed a contract with AC Milan," explained former Galatasaray director Yurdasen Karahasan.

"Our director Mehmet Cansun tried to persuade Terim to take over again, but we were too late. He told Cansun that he had expected an offer from Galatasaray much earlier and that he was disappointed we were not in touch before."

Terim walked out on Fiorentina at the end of January and was immediately tipped to replace former Milan boss Zaccheroni. But no agreement was forthcoming as Terim was insistent on bringing his entire backroom team with him – a condition Milan were initially reluctant to accept.

Brescia have nothing more to prove this season as they are mathematically out of the relegation battle and can’t aspire for the UEFA Cup so one can expect a rather uninterested Brescia that might just help Milan reach their season’s backup objective.

TEAM NEWS AND FORM GUIDE…

Milan will have to do without Serginho, Maldini, Giunti, Kaladze Redondo, Ambrosini, Albertini, Boban and Costacurta and so the manager C.Maldini will play a 4.4.2 with: Rossi, Helveg, Roque Junior, Chamot, Sala, Guglielminpietro, Gattuso, Leonardo, Coco, Shevchenko and Comandini.

Brescia will have to do without Pirlo, Gonzalez and Yllana and will play a 3.5.1.1 with: Srnicek, Petruzzi, Calori, Bonera, Diana, A.Filippini, Bisoli, E.Filippini, Bachini, R.Baggio and Hubner.

Rossi to discuss contract extension
8.6 || webmaster

After extending the contract of Francesco Coco, AC Milan will discuss the future of Sebastiano Rossi, who might decided to extend for one year. 'Seba', who played as a regular after the arrival of Cesare Maldini, played some outstanding matches and it seems as if Terim would love to have the 36-year old with him. However, in case he does not extends his contract, Juventus are ready to make an offer, although that might not be the case since Rossi said that there will be no particular problems to extend his contract with AC Milan.

Ex AC Milan star, Dejan Savicevic has recommended Red Star's player Boskovic to Milan's president Silvio Berlusconi calling him the new "Genius of Milan". Due to Savicevic's recomendation Milan is very keen on signing Boskovic.
Boskovic is only 20 years old and plays as an attacking midfielder. He is a fast, and a very creative player. He is perhaps best known for his strong free kicks. He is also the captain of the Yugoslavian U21 side.

Juventus postpone talks with AC Milan about Inzaghi
6.6 || webmaster

There wasn't any negotiation officially opened on Wednesday between Juventus and AC Milan to fix the price of Turin's side forward Filippo Inzaghi. At least this was what Juventus managing director Antonio Giraudo said arriving at the meeting of the Soccer Board

"There were too many voices yet about transfer market in past days, and at the moment our club is just trying to concentrate on last two Serie A games, against Vicenza and Atalanta" Giraudo said.

"So any talk about market will begin from June 18th, not earlier" Giraudo stated.

By his side AC Milan's vice-president Adriano Galliani, who was the one to announce a negotiation for Inzaghi could start on Wednesday, said to have not any problem "I agree totally with Giraudo, this means we'll meet again on June 18th"

Meanwhile papers reported AC Milan should be ready to figure out a bid around 60 billion lire (USD 27), while Juventus is expected to ask at least 80 (USD 36m).

Cragnotti Believes Northern Powers Are Conspiring Against Rome

With Juventus forward Fillippo Inzaghi only a signature away from becoming an AC Milan player, Lazio supremo Sergio Cragnotti exposed his fears of a Northern conspiracy against the Roman teams.

" Inzaghi's sale to AC Milan shows how there is a probable alliance between the Northern giants to stop Rome from being the new capital of Italian football. It isn't normal that a strong team like Juventus sells their best forward to their biggest rival. They want to stop the new trend that sees the epicenter of football moving from the North to the South," said Cragnotti.

AC Milan 2001/02 Explained By Adriano Galliani
6.6 || webmaster

AC Milan’s general manager Adriano Galliani underlined during a press conference yesterday that their club is the one who has spent the most so far in order to improve next season’s squad:

“We are the only Serie A squad to have spent over $50million US so far for players that could reinforce the areas we thought necessary such as: Atalanta’s Massimo Donati and Christian Zenoni ($30million) and Alaves’ Javi Moreno and Contra ($20million).

In reality this could not be the end of our shopping as we are trying to work on one more really big deal that whether we do or don’t manage to conclude will be the last one we are going to work on. For this kind of player we could invest another $50million, that is if the president considers this the correct kind of investment that would really allow us to make an enormous improvement.

As far as our selling is concerned, we will probably release some youngsters but none of our big names will be going anywhere. In the case of Helveg, we have requested that Inter allow us to buy him back as in the prospective of a 4 man defence the Danish defender would be of vital help.

As far as Coloccini is concerned, considering his quality season with San Lorenzo and a valid defender can always be useful. Sebastiano Rossi will meet with us at the end of this season to decide what to do with his future, and Oliver Bierhoff, who has another year contract with us, has expressed the necessity of finding a team that will guarantee him a place in the starting line up in view of next year’s World Cup, so the decision is entirely his.

In the last few weeks the papers were implying our interest for Spanish midfielder Gazika Mendieta, which I can confirm, but when we found out that the player cost at least $58millionUS we decided that Cosmin Contra would be a more valid solution.

Finally I can confirm that we have decided to take back both Saudati (who played with Perugia this season) and Corrent (who played with Salernitana) and are will have to discuss with Empoli for Maccarone.”

Milan's Inzaghi desire is mutual
3.6 || webmaster

Milan Vice-President Adriano Galliani has dropped a bombshell on the transfer market by claiming: We like Filippo Inzaghi and he likes us. Inzaghi always tells people, even the Juve directors, that if he were to leave the Bianconeri then Milan would be top of his list. The Juventus striker is already rumoured to be leaving the club after being dropped in favour of David Trezeguet and the possible arrival of Christian Vieri.

However, Galliani also noted that most of the Rossoneri’s summer shopping has been completed. With the signing of Christian Zenoni, Massimo Donati, Javi Moreno and Cosmin Contra our transfer market is closed, admitted the Rossoneri supremo, but it could open again only for a big star. Gaizka Mendieta? I don’t think so, we’re set on the right flank now with Contra. Inzaghi is a great player and I admire him very much. What counts is that Milan have already invested £33m in new players, more than any other club has done without selling any of their squad.

Galliani revealed the background to the swift move for Inter target Contra from Alaves. We are in debt to Real Madrid as they already had a deal for the player, he said. I called Real President Florentino Perez and thanks to our close relations between clubs the Spaniards agreed to pull out of the deal. I have sent a letter of thanks and I will try my best to repay the favour. Real offered us Michel Salgado, but we wanted Contra above all else.

Galliani:"If we have Serginho, we don't need Rui Costa"

Galliani files up the opportunity to see Manuel Rui Costa with AC Milan's shirt: "If we have Serginho we don't need Rui Costa. I want to thank Real Madrid's Florentino Perez who retired from the auction for Contra, we have a debit with him. Abbiati is absolutely not transferable. Helveg should stay, but we have to speak with Inter Milan. Coloccini did a great season with San Lorenzo and Bierhoff still has a year contract. Of course he wants to play more regularly due to the World Cup and he can decide on what he wants to do. He conquered this privilege with his exemplary behaviour. About Mendieta we retired when we knew about the $58 millions clause and we found an alternative with Contra."

We can give some young player away, but not the regular ones. Possible big reinforces could interest the attack or/and the defence. During the usual metting between AC Milan club's board and the trading partners, Vice President Adriano Galliani commented on the team's plans for the future: "Till now we are the only ones who invest $50 millions to reinforce the roles we considered to be reinforced: $30 millions for Donati and Christian Zenoni from Atalanta, $20 millions for Javi Moreno and Contra from Alaves. And It couldn't be ended here. We are still chasing important targets and we don't exclude to sign a great element able to do the difference. AS Roma 1 - 1 AC Milan
2.6 || webmaster

AS Roma tried to add a win to strengthen their championship hopes, Milan would thwart their every effort managing to squeeze a 1-1 draw leaving both side to share a point.
Roma started off the match dominating the ball on the ground. Totti would create many chances, drawing fouls and playing the ball out to the wings. Roma produced many crossed, but they all met the heads of Milan players as the Rossoneri dominated the air game.
Milan's first chance came as a ball was headed laterally into the box. Standing alone, Shevchenko trapped the ball but his half volley was a definate mishit and it rolled paralel to the goal face.
Roma would get a chance as a great combination from Totti saw Tommasi go on a run towards net, but his hard shot was easily saved by Rossi who was right in the path of the ball.
Shevchenko would continue supplying Milan with chances, this time, a ball from Serginho was played down the middle, but Antonioli came out to block the Ukrainian's shot.
But just before the halftime whistle blew, Milan were awarded a corner kick. The ball was an outswinger, heading right towards Francesco Coco who brillaintly headed it past a diving Antonioli giving his side the 1-0 advantage just before the beak.
Roma came out for the second half seemingly more awake than the Milan side that was beating them. The dominated the ball once again, but failed to put in any goals.
But finally, substitute Montella would score the equalizer. Dribbling down the right side, he cut the ball to his left foot and shot a curling ball into the top left of the net.
Milan would try to answer, but Roma would shut down their desperate attempts. Batistuta almost gave Roma the winner as his turnaround volley was brilliantly saved by Rossi who gave his side a miracle.
Roque Junior would head the ball against the post at the other end, but the game would end in a stalemate 1-1.

MILAN - To matches to go. After four seasons and a shield won being a protagonist (12 nets) Leonardo's experience at Milan is coming to an end. "I hope I left behind a good memory of myself", he says. No doubt about it, we say, considering the loving attitude his fans showed.
"I want to thank everybody. Playing at Milan has been the greatest experience of my career. But also the most difficult. I played in Spain, Japan and France, but I got to Italy when I reached maturity. I will never forget the shield of two years ago. I'll always cherish this experience in my memory".
Next Sunday, against Brescia, he'll play his last match at Milan: "It will be an emotional day. After four years, it will be hard to leave this place, especially the fans. They have always given me great support".

AC Milan’s number 1 goal keeper Sebastiano Rossi, who has been with the Rossoneri for 11 years, is very near to signing a new contract with the club that should last till the year 2004.

If initially Milan seemed intentioned to confirm Christian Abbiati as the number one keeper, after the recent very positive performances by Rossi, Abbiati has found more room on the bench and will very probably look for another club next season: top of the list seems to be Torino (newly promoted to Serie A).

£7m Serginho rejected Fiorentina approach
1.6 || webmaster

AC Milan defender Serginho has revealed that he turned down a move to Fiorentina earlier this season. "I was thinking about it, but in the end nothing came of it," the Brazilian admitted.

"It was a difficult time for me," explained the £7 million-rated star. "Not only on the pitch, but in my private life as well. My father in Brazil was sick, and moving to another team and another city would have caused even more complications."

Now that he has returned to form, Serginho has no regrets. "It was definitely the right decision to stay and play in Milan," he said.

So good has Serginho been of late, that the club's vice-president Adriano Galliani singled him out for praise. "I thank him for that," Serginho said. "Towards the end of this season a lot of people have showed that they care."

The impression he gives is that, under former coach Alberto Zaccheroni, that wasn't always the case. "If my performances have got better, then I also have to thank the people around me for their support, something that didn't happen before," he added.

"I feel that both Cesare Maldini and Mauro Tassotti trust me, even though they took over the side at the most delicate part of the season."

Serginho recently received the backing of his team-mate, former Brazil captain Leonardo. "Serginho is one of the strongest Brazilians in Europe," he said.

"Serginho could fit very well into our national team, even if Roberto Carlos plays on the left and is rightly untouchable. It's impossible for a player like Sergio not to be in the squad.

"When he came to Milan, nobody knew him and he had some difficulty in acclimatising at the start, as do all foreigners who come to play in Italy. But you could immediately see his true potential.

"This year, Serginho is showing everybody his technical worth, which, together with his physical power, makes him the great player he has shown himself to be."
