AC Milan Reportedly Looking To Sign Juventus Striker Mario Madzukic
21.8 || webmaster

AC Milan have reportedly contacted Italian Serie A rivals Juventus with a view to sign forward Mario Mandzukic from the Turin side.

The Italian media has suggested that Paolo Maldini and the other powers that be at the club are keen on signing one more striker before the transfer window closes in two weeks’ time as they harbour concerns over Andre Silva and Samu Castillejo, who could leave the San Siro ahead of the transfer deadline. Milan aren’t thought to be confident either forward could provide adequate backup options, with Krzysztof Piatek the main man at the point of attack.

While Atletico Madrid’s Angel Correa is believed to be I Rossoneri’s main target, a deal may yet fall through as the Serie A outfit has so far remained intransigent over their offer of €40m plus €5m in bonuses and don’t seem intent on going any higher.

As of Sunday, Real Madrid forward Mariano Diaz was linked with a move but, per Rai Sport (h/t, Milan have approached Juve with an enquiry into Mandzukic’s availability.

The towering Croatian forward was linked to English Premier League side Manchester United before transfer season ended in England and is understood to be available for a fee in the region of €15m.

Mandzukic is also a reported target for German supremos Bayern Munich and Ligue 1 outfit AS Monaco but Milan view him as the perfect fit. A deal could be hard to reach with Juventus following the complications surrounding the deal for Gonzalo Higuain last season.

The Argentine striker ended up moving to Chelsea on a loan deal in January but his performances in England turned out to be less than inspiring, despite having linked up with Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge. The player has since returned to Juve as the Blues passed up on the option to keep him aboard for an additional year or to sign him on a permanent deal.

As things stand, I Rossoneri are 40/1 to win the Scudetto with Bet365 at the end of the 2019/20 season but Juve are the obvious favourites at 4/9 with William Hill. If you’re looking to bet on the outcome of the upcoming Serie A campaign, there are plenty of bookmakers with great deals out there, plus you could also calculate your estimated returns with free betting calculator.

Meanwhile, Betfair has Milan’s chances of finishing in the top four at 5/4 while neighbouring rivals Inter are at 1/10 following the capture of manager Antonio Conte. Paddy Power has Carlo Ancelotti’s Napoli at 1/10 as well.

Piatek is a favourite to top the goalscoring charts and Bet365 is offering odds of 5/1 on the Polish striker snatching the honours. Juve’s Cristiano Ronaldo is the 13/8 favorite with the aforementioned bookmaker and Inter’s Mauro Icardi is at 6/1 despite the threat of playing little to no football under Conte as the manager has finally signed Romelu Lukaku, whose name has been attached to 10/1 odds where top scoring is concerned.

Milan could definitely benefit from bringing a forward of Mandzukic’s experience in. But whether or not Juve will want to do business remains to be seen, if Rai’s report regarding the former’s intent is to be believed.

What will make the season successful?
20.8 || webmaster

Following the ban by UEFA, AC Milan will not be competing in Europe this season and will be instead focussing their efforts on bringing home the Serie A league title. The one year ban came after the club were found to be in breach of financial fair play rules by the Court of Arbitration for Sport.

The club has bought in some promising new players in the summer signings. From making Franck Kessie’s move from Atalanta permanent, to signing Rafael Leao who replaces the outgoing Patrick Cutrone, the club has put together a strong well matched team in time for the upcoming season.

As the start of the Serie A approaches, AC Milan fans are hoping to see the team climb the league table this season. While the league title may still be out of reach for the Milan club, football betting tips suggest a Champions League spot is more than possible.

Kessie move to AC Milan made permanent

Kessie has stood out as a player with great potential, while the previous season has not been one of Milan’s best, the midfielder has impressed the Milan hierarchy in his 96 appearances for the club so far.

As one of the leading players in Africa’s assists charts in the 2019 Cup of Nations, Kessie’s track record proves he will be a valuable asset to the club. The player is known for his boundless energy and for being strong and tenacious in tackle. With excellent control over the ball, the midfielder is able to transfer the ball from defence to attack with powerful accuracy.

At just 22 years old, Kessie has already shown that he has the potential to become a real star at the club.

Bennacer joins the squad

Joining Kessie as a midfield option, Ismael Bennacer has been signed to Milan from Empoli in a £14.5 million transfer deal. This young player was voted best player in the group stages of the Africa Cup of Nations and is contracted to remain in Milan until 2024.

Bennacer’s previous appearance in the Serie A for Empoli attracted attention from a number of clubs, with Italian team Napoli also showing an interest in signing him. Described as a warrior by Empoli’s director, the 21 year old has shown his dedication to the game and will give his all to bringing the trophy home for the Rosseneri.

Strong left back Hernandez joins the team

Since joining the club back earlier this summer, Theo Hernandez quickly showed his dedication to the team with a rigorous training regime. Coaches noted that his extra sessions in the gym have helped him to achieve impressive levels of fitness in time for the Serie A.

This is the defender’s first time playing in Italy after stints at Real Madrid and Real Sociedad.

However, after suffering an injury to his ankle in Milan’s game against Bayern Munich it is not certain if he will have recovered in time for the start of the season. With Hernandez side-lined, it could be down to Ricardo Rodriguez to fill in the left back spot.

Football rivalries that are even bigger than AC vs Inter
19.8 || webmaster

The competitive nature of football and the rivalry between teams is something that needs no introduction. It adds an added element of drama to every game, and, as long as it is not taken to extremes, contributes to the unique experience of being a football supporter.

All AC Milan fans know that this element is stepped up a notch when AC plays Inter. Local rivalry, town derby, call it what you will. When the teams next meet up on 21 September, the whole city will drop what it is doing, and the game will get extra attention across not just Italy but all of Europe.

AC and Inter split way back in 1908, and have been bitter rivals for over 100 years. Yet there are other footballing rivalries that run even deeper.

Celtic and Rangers

Billy Connolly joked that the Old Firm rivalry is something that has divided neighbourhoods and indeed entire families in his Scottish home town. Except when you look at the history of the rivalry, he was not entirely joking. The two Glasgow teams represent more than just football. They reflect the historic divide between Catholics and Protestants, and between Nationalists and Unionists. Celtic are associated with the former and Rangers with the latter. Fan skirmishes are not uncommon, and while they are usually minor in nature, there was an exception in 1980, when a mass brawl involving around 9,000 people spilled out of the stands and onto the pitch.

Watford and Luton

While they are by no means the biggest teams in the London area, Watford and Luton have the most long standing rivalry. The clubs were both formed in the 1880s and have played each other an incredible 118 times, despite long periods in which they were in different divisions. Right now, the teams are in just such a lull, and they have not met since 2006. Watford have been a solid presence in the Premier League since their promotion in 2015 – you can find out more about Watford F.C. on Luton, meanwhile, secured promotion from League One to the Championship at the end of last season – so it is conceivable that the old rivalry could be rekindled next year if Watford are relegated or Luton Town are promoted in 2020.

Liverpool and Manchester United

Not every derby is a cross-town affair. Of course, there’s rivalry between the two Manchester teams, and indeed between Liverpool and Everton. But it’s worth noting that the two cities are only 30 miles apart, and the real drama comes when Liverpool plays Manchester United. Historically, these are the two most successful teams in the north of England, and they have accumulated 110 trophies between them. In the past, there was always concern surrounding encounters being marred by fan violence. But over the past 10 years or so, the fans have kept it to generally good-natured chants and songs.

Flamengo and Fluminense

Brazil has a rich football heritage. This is the nation that coined the phrase “the beautiful game” and it has also brought us one of the most beautifully named local derbies. When the two major teams in Rio di Janeiro meet, it is known as the Fla-Flu, and encounters routinely fill all 90,000 seats of the city’s immense Maracanã stadium. In the days of general admission before the stadium became an all-seater affair, the number of spectators was known to approach twice that, and figures of 178,000 were once recorded. But despite (or perhaps because of) being packed in so close, acts of violence between fans have always been few and far between.
